Hope all is well. I have been getting some PM's asking for an official update so wanted to start a new thread going forward with updates, schedule, meeting place, dates etc...

NOTE - Any and all new data will be posted on this thread only....

    Official Date: May 17nth 2009

    Location: Newport RI

Meeting Place: First Beach Parking Lot (will get address out etc)

Time: OK would like some input here..... was planning to start late morning but have had a few request to start a bit later... Please PM me your vote with either.
    Only late morning works
    Only 2pm works
    I can do either....

This will be a meet and ride event. Plan to meet and greet, pics and car talk of course (no rush) and as we feel right we will take off on a mapped out ride...with a final destination spot completion.

Meeting at first beach is a public area providing a giant flat unobstructed parking lot overlooking the water. Up the road just 1/4 mile is a Dunkin Donuts for coffee and for any high rollers looking keep their significant other happy www.thechanler.com over looks 1st beach where the event will start.... there is a bar here and restaurant (lots of other more reasonable places to stay in town, near by, PM me if you want some recommendations)

Please PM me again with your intentions to attend.... or hope to attend as this will have some bearing on the mapped out ride... Goal is more exotic/semi exotic sports cars for this ride itself but all welcomed to attend the meet.

Newport has a lot to offer for those looking for other things to do before or after the meet.... largest event that week end is the Boat Show for those that are boaters..... but here are a ton of other things happening that month.

    http://www.gonewport.com/ViewPage.aspx?id=175

Please PM me if you read this and plan to attend.....please do not wait and ask that you PM me asap. Thanks all....

Would a Triumph TR6 or an SL500 make the grade?

All are welcomed to attend, look at some cars, strike up some conversation as long as one is a car enthusiast!

All are welcomed to attend.....but as far as parking the cars going to try and group accordingly based on available space (plenty of parking, but if beach day it maybe in pockets, so I plan to get there a bit early to attempt to quarenteen some space etc, but will know closer to the event if that will even be needed) For the ride itself it will be hard to keep a large pack together (may not have that issue if turn out is low) so may have to narrow to certain cars to start etc... but all will be given the driving route to keep pace and meet up along the way etc.... Hope this comes across OK, posting can be hard.... My vote would be the Triumph! As I have seen some clean TR6's in my day and really nice cars! not that the MB is not a nice car, it is very nice just less unique.... of course unless it was sent out for a full Kleeman or Renntech upgrade in and out pushing 600hp:) Then may suggest the MB:)

    Hope to see you there....

Just a thought, but a nice run (not fast, nice) would be down past the mansions onto Ocean Ave. with a stop for a late lunch at Castle Hill. Have done that before with the Ferrari Club-good food, spectacular views.

Thanks..... The ride should be nice and I am trying to incorporate some interesting sites, history, views, etc........ Here are some high level thoughts....

Bellevue ave is a must..... Pat the Elms Mansion, Rosecliffe Mansion, Marble House, Belcourt castle and others, ....Short jaunt through Salve Regina University Campus past the Breakers Mansion, Ochre Court (where Movie True Lies was filmed with Arnold S.) then past Carey Mansion (where Tales from the Darkside was filmed for years...)...to Ocean drive.....possible pull into Castle Hill for a view of the Newport Bridge and a drink if people are up for it....Then possibly into Fort adams for photo opp -this a maybe-...... We will cruise by 1st and 2nd beach by Bird Sanctuary, past St George Private School area then past Nicholas Cages house (for sell for 16mil if anyone is interested:)....).... trying to work in an Americas Cup ave drive by and possible lower Thames stroll with the cars but some current road repairs may or may not impact that. I have lived here a long time and hope I can deliver a ride people will enjoy and see some things they may have not seen before..........

I will be spending some time setting up a good path with nice roads, nice ocean views, interesting mansion with some serious history and interesting pasts etc... then send out links and URLS to some of the things we will be driving past etc...

Hope this entices people here to PM me if they maybe attending...(no PMs yet).. any questions also about the area feel free to PM me... thanks

I would be careful about cruising Amerca's Cup Ave. if the Boat Show is in town. Modern cars could probably handle the crowded stop & go, but cars like mine would not enjoy the experience! Skip it and spend time at the Fort and watch the harbor from the other side, or take a run down to Green Vale Vineyards by way of Indian Ave. and Wapping Road and have a glass of wine. Another stop (I suggest calling ahead) would be to visit Park Place Holdings in the Portsmouth Industrial Park...you never know what might be lurking there.

Thanks for the note, Thames and America cup ave would be left for a conclusion drive and just as a "possible" as noted (based on how the day looks etc, traffic flow, weather, timing) not as part of the core drive. I already have plans to be in touch with park Place for an offering to join us etc.... I have lived in the Newport area on and off now for 15 yrs, have some faith! So are you in? Hope so.....look forward to meeting!

    Sorry,
Your enthusiasm is usually the hallmark of someone new to town. Many Newporters do not like car groups. The residents of the Bellevue Ave area have managed to kill several attempts to start concours events in town. NOT IN MY BACK YARD is a funny response from a community which complains mightily about high taxes and lack of revenue generating businesses that do not require huge factories.

Don't know if I will be able to attend. The C/4 has no wheels (they are being restored) and I do not know when they will return. We shall see.

I think a more accurate statement maybe that residents in general do not like car groups. When I try and organize a car event I try not over analyze the people living in the homes I will be driving by knowing just that.... Newport, Wellesly, Greenwich CT, other etc... they all will frown when they hear the glorious exhaust note from a TUBI even at idle..... to some (car people) it is music to others it's just NOISE....... I stomach the viewing of those walking their poodles and sporting the seersucker suits w/bow ties so they can hear my exhaust note the days I am out driving:) In my notes of what to expect to see (noting the sites) it is just in an effort to get people interested in attending and pulling some car enthusiasts together.....
Lets stay positive, the city is starting to come around (slowly) and a good example of that is the concours event that started a few years back..... http://www.newportconcours.org/ as I am sure you know about. Hope your wheels make it back in time, would be great to see you attend.

Some good news on the date, looks like the new road will be completed downtown (if we choose to go that path later in the day) as will the small bridge on Ocean Drive will be completed, last month + it has been a detour.....

Correction, SOME Newporters do not like car groups. and actually it has very little to do with the car groups themselves but the people behind them. There are a lot of car guys in Newport. The behind the scenes drama with some past events have little to do with the enthusiasm of automobiles shared by many Newporters. The residents on Bellevue Ave that you speak of are a very small group and in fact there has been a Concours event in Newport every year for the past 4 years. The only people protesting were the ones trying to form their own event.

Hi, I'm thinking about joining the ride in Newport. I have a 2005 Red Ferrari 360 Spyder. How many people are attending and what kind of cars? What time are you meeting at the Parking lot?

It is really a car cruise, but that does not mean you are not welcomed, of course your welcomed to the meet, greet and so forth, but the ride itself we are going to start the group with the auto's. Please understand, and know I love motorsports of all kinds, I just installed a riva stage one kit on my Sea Doo RXT.... and although the wife won't allow me on a sport bike (yes I admit it!) I do have few honda Ruckus's:) So hope to see you there....

Its a toss up on 2pm or late morning..... late morning will allow for less traffic flow which I think could be key for this week end. If we do 10-10:30am ish am and I can get a few committed from this group I would lock in the time. As of now it seems to be mainly Porsche and some Ferrari's...few other cars. I will bring my modded narrow bodied 997...
