I sold my 1995 355 Spider a year ago for $43K. I have the opportunity to buy it back for 36. I’d do it if I can make a quick $5K on it. It needs a canvas top, has aftermarket seats, has a few minor scratches, has a line in the front bumper, 6 speed 3 pedal of course. Light ticking (lifter?) noise when warm. Dash might need recovering. Climate control works. AC compressor cycles. Stickies fixed. Runs exc, great clutch, 50K miles. Timing belt changed by me (with proof) in 2016. Clean California title. Clean car fax.

    Should I jump?

What scared the buyer to sell for 36?

I highly doubt you would make any money. IIRC, the car was in less than awesome condition. And the market is not very strong right now.

Exactly, I’d buy it to fix up and drive but sure wouldn’t buy it thinking I was going to do a little work and make a quick buck.

Would you say the market is softer than it was a year ago?

Yes. The market was on a high 2.5 years ago (non blue chip cars) and has been soft since. Pristine cars are the exception.

That is a steal. Sounds like a few things need sorted but take a look on AutoTrader at the average asking price that is a steal

I you follow these cars regularly, then you can sense that things aren't as good as they were...

Regarding data, Hagerty is very accurate for the V8 Ferraris.

Thank you. Is #4 still clean title cars? Also, surely I wouldn’t add $30,000 for 6 speed. If so, even a number 4 car would be worth 70.

I went to Haggerty and looked up the number descriptions. I think this car is no worse than 4, maybe even a 3/4. I guess that would make it worth the 43 I sold it for last year, with no bump for the 3 pedals

It's been my experience that Hagerty is not reliable at all. Keep in mind, private sales won't be used in their data (and most 355's sell privately)

Worth is one thing, and actual selling prices are another. And seriously, I can't imagine paying $70 for a number #2 car (excellent). But then, I'm not in the market right now either.

But again, we're talking today's market. If you buy your car back, things may be different when you're ready to sell. Enjoy the ownership in the meantime. :)

While not the absolute guide for values, Hagerty's tool does work well as an indictor for "averages".

When you say private sales for the F355, are you referring to top condition cars primarily?

Not really. Any car sold that does not go through a dealer is really a private sale. Most cars listed on ebay (as an example) don't sell on ebay (they sell privately offline).

If hagerty really was worth its salt they would state Added value would include stickies being fixed, headers swaped and valve guides done or verified steel ones service done or not.

    But they don't.

    Condition is different for many.
A #3 car to one person may be a #2 to another and yet another may say its a #4.
Its silly how they explain values.

As if some dust or dirt found will bring down the whole car from a #1 to a #2.

They got dust on them when being built.

But they add 30k in value for a six speed grar box.

Hate to burst anyones bubble but each 355 came with a 6 speed.

No where do they specifically poibt out the mean a manual as apposed to a F1 car.

    $30,000 haha

Yep - I was able to argue that and use Hagerty's adder to get my agreed value policy on my F1 :)

Is there still a PM system on Fchat? I can't find an inbox in my profile and I clicked on a member's link and found no option for sending a PM
