MC12 allowed to race this year!!! GOOD NEWS...well sorta

Same thing happened in 96 with the BRP Series. They allowed the Porsche GT1 to race at Spa and another race (can't remember which one). No points were given and it did not effect the Championship. Hans Stuck and thiery Boutsen raced the GT1 in select races.

The GT1 was a full second faster than the fastest F1GTR's right out of the box.

Is this car going to be in the GTS class in Le Mans?

 

probably too soon to know, but who are the drivers that will race for the homologation files?

 

Lets hope that they don't end up killing GTS the way GT1 died, although I'm not hopeful.

 

I wouldn't be so sure.....with the C6R coming next year, which is said to be better in every way compared to the C5R...I definitely don't think it will a push over if they ever race together.

 

Andrea Bertolini and Iradj Alexander have been testing the MC12 at the circuit of Paul Ricard for a race simulation.

Although not yet announced, i think Bertolini makes a good chance to get a seat.

The driver line-up is announced!
The 2 Maserati MC12 that will make their debut in the FIA GT race in Imola on 5 september completed their last preparatory test at Mugello.

One crew is composed of Johnny Herbert and Fabrizio De Simone.
The other one is Mika Salo and Andrea Bertolini.

Iradj Alexander tested the new 2005 Maserati Trofeo kit, a car that will feature in the Trident single-marque series.

 

This weekend is the first race weekend for the MC12, FIA GT in Imola !!

I doubt they were sandbagging. Those other cars have had a year or more to tune. 8th in your first race in not too bad.

What is too bad are those colors. That blue makes it look horrible...in my opinion...silver looks way better so does black. Oh well that's unfortunate.

 

Note that the two Maseratis finished second and third in the race itself, behind a Saleen.

 

Very impressive debut. Now if Ferrari could get over it and race an Enzo for real...

Two things to consider. 1 They have been testing this car for a year with some of the best drivers, including MS, on the market today. and 2 they are trying to get approval to run these cars next year. If they make everyone look bad they will not get that approval. Politics the down fall of every thing good. LOL

It's over before it began.
Unless Audi plops a Lambo body on a RS8 that is.
That said this car will never be allowed to run without MASSIVE restriction.
