I have wondered about this also, and I asked the dealer about this, he thought it was because the EU laws require headlight washers, which would be much harder to make functional with the covers on.

I have also heard about some Italian law that doesn't allow covered headlights

But then again there are cars as 360 that has covers and no washers and is made in Italy......

Aren't all the pictures with covers either race cars or factory promotional pictures ? Are there any roadregistered MC12 with covers ?

So I´m answering a question with more questions.... Does anyone have facts ? :D

    Ok. Good question.

Answer: that's a "promotional" desktop, because the road going version doesn't have plastic covers on the front lights, only the racing cars have (the MCC).

But... hehe... There's ONE road going MC12 that actually has plastic covers: it's located in the Swiss Canton Ticino, it has been spotted at Loris Kessel Racing in Lugano... And it is the one and only MC12 which is painted all blue.

    Nike,
German TÜV-laws are the toughest worldwide. They are permitting covered headlamps like Enzo, F430, Murcielago - and MC12!
    So, your dealer tells b*****t!

    Ciao!

Thanks all but my question is still unanswered. WHY aren't they covered on production versions?

Bad choice imo. Car looks very strange without them. Doesn't it affect the drag?
