They did that some years ago just before the West sponsorship. Sort of a throwback to good old Gulf orange!
i think they should stick with it for the rest of the season, you just can't see the car with it's current colors.
Its spelt Mc-Laren not Mc-Claren, as per official website. http://www.mclaren.com/ - F1 Team http://www.mcclaren.com/ - Insurance company As much as I hate McLaren and Ron Dennis, spelling it with 2 C's is something I hate more
Wow completey didnt even realize I was spelling it with 2 c's. I knew when I looked at it, it looked totally wrong but it just never clicked. Apologies for the screw up. Mark
It's not actually Gulf orange - it was first used by McLaren in the 1967 Can-Am series and became known as 'papaya', and is lighter than Gulf orange. Gulf were one of the trade sponsors of McLaren in that series, and papaya was picked by McLaren as a colour whch would stand out on TV and in photos, and maybe also because the darker Gulf stickers would stand out against it. It was first used for an F1 McLaren at the 1968 South African GP: http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=tbn:VHWJFC4P2MwJerso.wanadoo.fr/toutelaf1/ Paul M
Classic!! Quite a wild design too! That front wing is amazing, triple element, with angled endplates, and look how far back it extends. I guess they are trying to solve their front end wash out problems. Or, they have made them worse...
It's a technical marvel, but jeezus, only a mother could love that abomination. I like the color, but what the hell. I think function over form is a worthwhile mindset, but I truly hope F1 is in a transition period. There a plenty of vehicles with the same foundation that still manage to be appealing to the eye (fighter planes and offshore racers come to mind).
