The FIA's hearing for February concerning the 2008 McLaren chassis has been cancelled, thus putting an FIA end to Stephneygate. The FIA was satisfied with McLaren's apology letter. (www.autosport.com)

Ferrari will continue with it's legal action in court against McLaren.

They should just buy the car from Ferrari and then paint it silver, it would have been cheaper

This conclusion was all arranged before the appology from McCheater. Formula one does not want to loose any $$$$. That comes first then the racing.

 Please don't start this again Brian. They've had a look at the car and found nothing. Please don't tell me that when McLaren does well next season you'll be continuing on with this...

It was boring the first time around. Let's not drag this into 2008.

Actually, this is not correct. McLaren acknowledged in their letter that Ferrari design elements were in fact used and they agreed to remove those items.

So Brian, no they will not be using Ferrari designs, and Charles, they would have if not caught and forced to admit the truth so as to not have the hearing. I have a feeling that someone (Bernie/Max) told McLaren what to say in their letter, and what to do so as to avoid being penalized in 2008. And avoid anything detrimental to ticket sales.

Fact remains, they DID use Ferrari designs and that is the reason Ferrari is proceeding in civil court. May be over for the FIA, but this not the last of this scandel, issue, whatever you want to call it.

Hey 355 you better go look up because the sky must be falling - yet AGAIN I agree with you! :)

This outcome was definitely pre-arranged. Undoubtedly someone (probably Bernie) got between Max and Ron and highlighted that this whole fiasco is costing time and money and wanted to broker some sort of deal. Max was happy just to have Ron grovel and acknowledge Mac's mistakes and Ron had felt enough of Max's wrath and would have likely done anything to just put it to an end.

Ironically I don't think this whole thing was good for ANYONE, not McLaren, not Ferrari, not Stepney or Coughlan, or Bernie and not the FIA or Max. I am not sure the FIA needed to get involved from the get-go and maybe should have let the courts handle it, and if they did want to get involved it should have been to tell everyone to put an END to the behaviour. There are much easier ways to make a point than to drag the whole sport down in the process.

Not going to happen, you are forgetting that there is an "engine development freeze" thing going on for the next 10 years, courtesy of FIA and Mad Max. At the rate technology is moving these days, a forced-inductioned Scion will out drag a F1 car by year 2018. :)

Yea, and everyone was screaming about the rev-limited V8s being slower than the V10s. What happened? They found more speed and they're just as fast. I predict the same. After all of the new rules are applied the cars will be as fast if not faster in five years time than they are now.

    +1000 I agree

The FIA's role should be to resolve and end problems not add to them.

    i was just joking :)

trust me, the last thing i want to see in 2008 in some political behind-the-scenes-court-drama.

i just wanna see real racing, and some great overtakings :)

...I wont bring it back either...but McLaren has the pace...so its a proven fact. :(

Outside observers from the FIA found it, then McLaren accepted the use of Ferrari technology beyond initial in-house investigation and offered a self imposed development freeze on the 3 specific car areas.

...what they couldnt find in McLarens car/organisation was a single bit of self respect or shame left...
