Dunno. I've been saying that a while. Being that most 650S are Spider, by the time the 570S Spider is available, 650S will be just about out of production and the replacement will be right around the corner. Also worth noting that probably 50% of the remaining 650S production is actually 675LT.
By basing their cars around one carbon tub McLaren seems to have shortened product cycles and managed to expand the product range quite significantly Kudos to them
They want to offer different variants with different price points so they have something to sell to more customers. You are aware that Mercedes, Audi, and Porsche do the exact same thing, right? There are some folks who will be happy to drive the 540 version and some who will want the 570 version. When Mercedes introduced the AMG GT they did exactly the same thing. Same goes for Porsche with the 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S and Audi with three variants of the R8.
They went for fuel economy? No they didn't. As for "feel" they tweaked the 12C underpinnings to give the 650S a lot more feel and have now stayed that mythical dragon. I say mythical because 12C had a different feel to other cars due to the hydraulic suspension and I think journalists simply misread that and didn't take the time to get used to something new. They wanted more of the same and McLaren made something different, and in my opinion, better. With the 650S they tweaked a bunch of things to make the emotion more obvious without ruining what made the 12C so great in the first place. They're absolutely beautiful creatures to drive on road and track.
Well, the way to answer that question is to go out and try to order one. But like all of these debates most of the participants have no intention of actually buying the car discussed, so we're speculating on whether they are available in U.S. I will say that my local dealer told me that they can order only the 570 at present.
My undertsandiong is the 570 is what is coming to the the USA and the 540 is a china special as there ultimate performance not as big a decider as exoiticness and wow. Same as they did a lower sped version of the 650 there. But yeah I can see that for most drivers of exotics the 540 will already be more car than they will use and reputedly be more comfortable/softer than the 570. Besides the softer suspesion, I wonder what other differences there really are to a 540, or is it justa reflash away from being a 570. My guess and it s pure speculation is a steel brakes softer suspesion, different wheels and different tune. Are you paying 20k more ona 570 for cf brakes and a tune?
540C is definitely coming worldwide IMO. The pricelist for the 540C with GBP prices on it was also published. Doubt they'd only sell it in the UK and China. Tiered is the new trend. AMG GT/GT-S V10/V10+ Turbo/Turbo S 540C/570S
And no sheilds, how ill they ever sell, wait is there deviated stiching and crests. Actualy pretty smart if no badges, 540 looks the same as 570 costs less.
12c has depreciated a lot more than $25k... 540C looks like it could be a hit. At least I hope it is..
spoke to my dealer today and told me can order 570 now for delivery in the fall but the 540 will NOT be coming to usa as of now. they are getting in their demo 570 later this month
just saw the 570s yesterday. painted orange with lots of carbon fiber. base price $185k. looked AWESOME. lots of nice standard features.
Stopped by my local dealer over the weekend to see when the 570 is coming in. They too said that the 540 will not come to the U.S.
Yep, there's been a lot of various opinions on that, thought I'd add another data point. Seems a shame not to bring it over to the U.S. though.
It is actually surprising they wont as the US is a price sensitive market typically and who cares at the entry level if you have 540 or 570 hps if the former gets you a good discount for a similar car.
My dealer is having 570 intro party next week. I will ask around re 540 but they have told me its only 570. Maybe 540 will get here in future
