You can't go wrong with IMHO.

I joined McLaren last year when I bought my 2013 12C and had a great experience and didn't hesitate to order my P1 after the preview.

    whie Ferrari experience the same

The McLaren PR/Marketing department is so intriguingly weird it would make an interesting case study. I don't get it; they market the 650 as a very friendly and useable car. Yet they go over there and say "here! We've given you a less capable car, enjoy it!" What's the point of that, giving them what I would get the impression of being a lesser-grade product. Made softer and less powerful...

Speciale for me. Because really when you're in the moment, who cares about clinical numbers and lap times. It's about the experience, the thrill, the emotion. The 650S is so lacking in that department they even have to resort to augmenting fake (and ugly) engine noise...

The same reason why the Huracan has invasive controls even when you turn everything "off." The asian market is huge... and Lambo, like McLaren wants the easy money, but the buyers can't drive. Its not because they lack the inherent ability. Its because culturally they haven't developed this... and are only starting to take any interest in driving now. Its usually about prestige of ownership. Trust me, I know. I'm chinese.

Isn't the Asian luxury market declining? What is the perception of the 625C over there? Do they look at is as a tailored product or do they see through the fancy marketing and realize it's just a lesser-grade product? McLaren should look at the perception of the 650S if they don't believe Asian clients can "handle it", since they market the 650S as an easier to live with and more intuitive car than its competitors.

I just don't get why they are proud of providing a detuned car for a specific market. BMW do the same in my country, they provide detuned versions of the small diesel and petrol engines to avoid as much taxation as possible. They shut up about it, because it's a silly thing.

Mclaren needs to make a 3 seater again with the driver sat smack dab in the middle. It's so unique they would sell a buttload. And call it, Mclaren Menage....hehehe JK kinda....

Ferrari did that 40 years ago but no worries really. Its not the seats that sell a car in the end.

I honestly don't think a lot of the asian market reads the specs. The mainlanders that buy cars over here where I live, which is in the mid west, don't know anything about the aventadors, Vanquishes, or maseratis they purchase. One guy has a "galaxy" wrap on his car for god sakes... its just about having the badge on the car. Oh, i forgot to cast my vote... Speciale for me.

They could be smarter than you. It takes 30 minutes to learn about every model of super cars.
The reason for car makers to release a smaller version in Asia (China), is because of the tax for imported cars. Engine size is also being considered in tax calculation. In Singapore for example, a car costs US$300,000 in USA is US$1.2 million there. So it's about 400%. Every $50,000 increase/less in USA is $200,000 increase/less there. So a $200,000 car in USA is $800,000 there. They save $400,000 for $100,000 less (from $300,000 base price) in USA.
That's why most of the cars there are BMW 520, 730, Mercy E200, S300, etc. In USA mostly 550, 750 or E55 AMG, S550, etc.

And, btw mik458spider, reading the specs to understand a car is like reading about sex. Not really the same as having it... hopefully you know that.

Well glad I'm not the only one that wants a modern version. When my wife passed I started to use the F1 more than most of the others. What a pain to get in and out of. That's why I like that Bugatti 4 seater prototype of theirs. Galbr...I would buy that one. I'm on this mission lately to procure three of each model that I really love so that
I could go riding with my twin daughters when they are of age. In 2003 I purchased an additional F1 and another one that needs much work a few years later. Right now McLaren has this huge undertaking of engineering the F1 that needs work to more modern specs and I have been pushing off my P1s builds for some time because of this. Trying to achieve a common thread with the P1's and re-worked F1 but everytime I get new details to deal with I get a massive headache.

The 991 GT3 is an incredible car. Though it isn't as analog as the 997 GT3 RS, it uses its tech to correct some of the inherent issues with the 997 and 911s in general, which is its understeer tendency. Its not really a fair comparison to compare a 918 and a 991 GT3, however a 991 GT3 would be comparible to a Speciale in terms of performance on the track.

When you spend expensive $$$ on a car, performance is not always everything. If performance is the only one, we should get Ultima GTR. The price is below $100,000, and it will run faster than LaFerrari or P1 on any track.
About 991 GT3, it is definitely a very good car. But.....It looks like VW Bettle with body kits. And also it has too many cousins : Carrera, Carrera S, 4, 4S, Targa, Turbo, Turbo S.

Mik458spider, I agree with you, performance isn't everything when you are paying absurd amounts for a car. There's pride of ownership, status, awesomeness, "soul" etc. Its funny too, if a car is perfect, no one likes it! McLaren basically makes perfect cars... in their mp412c and 650s, however they dont get much love due to their lack of character! Weird...

The 991 GT3 however is sexy... yes it does look beetle ish, but what a sexy beetle it is.
