    570/720 is not like Cali/488, it's closer to Huracan/Aventador or 488/812.

570s will quite possibly be the sales leader, especially since it's the only McLaren spider for the next two years.

    Yep

I overheard a comment at Goodwood that McLaren have outsold Ferrari in a few markets and thats a first for them. McLaren would love to sell 10,000 cars a year but I don't think they ever will (or really want to). Their factory simply couldn't handle it.

They are making good money at 4000 cars a year. Thats mostly 570s (720s is just starting). They hit it out of the park with the 570s spider and that will be their most popular car IMO. They are also building 570s race cars for their own racing series so thats pretty cool.

570s spider is definitely a big win for Mclaren. Looks tremendous.

Those 570 GT4's are off the charts. I saw it in action this past week-end and it was performing beautifully with a non pro driver who owns the car and first time at the track.

    Really, really impressive.

Mclaren is shooting for a maximum production cap of 5,000 cars I'm told. They are not too far from that and with the current lineup should get pretty close to it I think.

The 720S is a much faster car on a track or straight line over the 488. Probably faster than anything Ferrari has ever built for the public roads. Just a guess but most likely we'll see faster times on the shorter technical tracks with the 720S vs the holy trinity. So the 720S faster on track and more civil on the roads or at least as civil as a 488/458 which are both good enough to daily.

I have a 458 Spider now and like many here in this thread, also face the decision of 488 vs 720 to add to the garage. Depreciation isn't an issue as I'll surely lose money on both and that is the price of admission.

I think both cars are gorgeous. I've driven the 488 and loved it except for the shorter shifting, lower redline and less intoxicating sound vs my 458. Clearly, a faster car vs the 458 though and improved all around except for the aforementioned.

The 720S is new and exciting. Looks great. Very exotic from every angle. The inside is also beautiful. Everyone who has driven it has given it accolades. I will be test driving the 720S in the next week or two and that hopefully will help me make my final decision. Just looking at the car from any angle is near perfection to my eyes. I hope the Spider version is also as stunning.

The crazy thing is that Mclaren has now produced something so good that long time Ferrari customers are now also buying a Mclaren or getting on instead of the next F car. They have come a long way.

The guy who said the McLaren sound thing is figured out as they have a Lambo engineer is high as a kite. I allegedly hit 150 on a test drive and she sounded like a golf cart. It's a great car, just don't tell me she sounds like a Lambo. Naturally aspirated ten or twelve does not, ever, sound like a turbo eight!

I just can't wait to see a 720S drag race a 918. Has to be close. Didn't take long for job hybrids to catch up..

Regarding straight line speed, the LaFerrari was clocked at 9.7s for the 1/4 mile and at 9.8s for the 0-150 mph dash. The P1 at 9.8 for the 1/4 mile; can't remember seeing a 0-150 time though. The 720 at 10.19s for the 1/4 mile and 11.01s of the 0-150. Thus, while the 720 is demonically fast, it's still some way off the big boys.

Regarding lap times, it comes down to tyres really. The new Pirelli Trofeos of the Huracan Performante and the 720 are just out of this world!

720 much faster than the LT and 918. The GT2 RS is said to be faster than the 918 and that has fewer ponies, weaker aero than the 720

Not a chance man that either is much faster than a 918. 720s may be close.

I think you miss umderstand the infos

    official numbers 100/200/300kmh
    720s 2.9/7.8/21.4sec
    Gt2Rs 2.8/8.3/22,5sec
    918 dont remember 100% 2.6/6.9/19sec

so in strightline 918 is faster, on track it could be different
mostly of the new tyre generation (see amg gt time etc)

the 720s is the lightest followed by Gt2rs and the 918
Still if you revering on strightline numbers it is hard to beat the 918 with
just 700-720hp. If you mean trake times we will soon find out
but i think it is very possible to beat the 918 times...

I'd take a LAF over any but the 918 in the real world is probably the consistently quickest car ever made. Only a Chiron in a straight line would be faster. Every video shown is the 918 beating basically everything and in the case of the 675LT the 918 blows it away badly. The 720S though seems a big step up to everything that has been made, however. I've seen personally a 918 run 175 mph in the half mile with two passengers, on a dusty runway and wearing aftermarket HRE wheels. That's 15 mph faster than a 675 that ran the same day. It's not even close.
