Define 'available'. Am pretty sure that the average Joe cannot simply walk into a Porsche dealer (in NA) and come out with an allocation in hand for either of these cars at MSRP. That's not to say you can't get one, but it will be a waiting game to see if Porsche ends up satisfying all orders.
You can get one. Just not today. Of course you have to wait. Let's say 400 people want one right now. They are out on the list since only 50 might be able to be produced per month. Wait until the list exhausts or just get on it and wait for your turn in line. Like Porsche said only limit is production capacity. If 50 or 100 more want one each month the list just grows and your u wait longer.
The fact that you call it a Beetle says quite a lot about your view on it but I'll give my 2 cents anyway. I don't think Porsche will have any problem whatsoever selling the GT2RS since the demand for these special 911's are through the roof and have been for a very long time. There's been plenty of people that have paid a $50k+ mark up on the 991 GT3RS's so I don't see why people wouldn't buy a limited production GT2RS for a bit more than that. The 720s, 488 and Huracan will all drop in value quite significantly over the next 5 years as well, I doubt the same will happen with the RS. How it looks is a very subjective topic and it's obviously not made to look elegant or to be the wifes Nr.1 choice when going out to dinner. But again, the GT3RS looks pretty much the same and the demand for that car is extremely high, so I doubt the styling of the GT2 will turn people off. FWIW, the 720s has hardly been universally praised when it comes to its styling. I'm not saying that the GT2RS will win any beauty contests either but a lot of people will prefer the Porsche over the Mclaren.
And then they showed the lie...and are making more manual. The upcoming correction on the R is going to be tough for > MSRP collectors.
"911 is just a Beetle" - Bugatti then is also a Beetle being built by VW? The Aventador and Cinturano is also a Beetle too? Rolls Royce just a BMW 323? The LaFerrari is just a Fiat 500 then right? Makes total sense now
In this thread we have managed to pizzoff Ferrari Owners McLaren Owners and now VW, Lambo, Porsche, BMW, Rolls Royce and Bugatti owners. A new record!
I bought a 911 gt3 manual from at MSRP no problem. The VIP (aka 918) owners get first allocation so there is a bit of a wait so probably winter/spring delivery.
He probably meant that any 911 is a Beetle as it has the engine in the wrong place, as Ferdinand Porsche intended. He is right really. Nothing to do with the ownership of the marque.
Ugh... Spent time with a 720S today. Wanted to hate it. I am 47 and a dyed in the wool Italian car guy. I was hoping that I would see it and think that it wasn't for me. I had that feeling about the MP4 and the 650. The 675 got my attention, but not enough to sell my Ferraris/ Lambos. The 720 blew me away. At COTA today did a McLaren drive event. Drove a 570S, but there were 2 720s there. Here are my observations: 1) The 720 is stunning. It just is. I was simply blown away by the design. I am a looong time Ferrari/ Lambo owner. I have owned 10+ ferraris. I adore Ferrari. I collect Ferrari stuff. There were several 458s/ 458 Speciales there. Next to the 720 the 458 looked at least 2-3 generations out of date. (I owned and LOVED a 458 Spider and would buy one again). I read that the 720S looks like a Pagani..this is a very accurate observation. The doors on the 720 are complete show stoppers. Cooler than my Aventador Roadster. 2) Fit and finish on all the McLarens was without fault. For example, the paint on the McLarens was clearly better vs Ferrari (not as good as Lamborghini.) Interior on the Mc was incredible. Everything you touched felt incredibly high end. Think jewelry, think Pagani. 3) Sound. Anyone who says the 720s doesn't sound incredible is just plain wrong. Everyone turned their head when a 720s went down the straight at WOT. The 720S sounded exotic. The Speciale sounded like a 90s f1 car (incredible). The 720 sounded like a 2017 F1 car. (almost as good as the Speciale) 4) Performance. Can't report. Didn't drive or ride. I did hear a guy from Mc saying that one of the 720s was hitting 175mph. I am in the market for a new toy. I will be hard pressed not to get a 720s. The 720s has leap frogged Ferrari....
Leap frog as it should. 720 is next generation. The 488gto will close the performance gap and then in few years the next gen ferrari will make this 720 feel dated. And on it goes...
I thought the 720S was a gamechanger when I saw it; I never felt that way about the MP4, 650/675, or 570. Styling is more reminiscent of Pagani or F1 than other recent McLaren models. Even the headlights, by far the most controversial design element, won me over in person... now the big acrylic lenses on every other car look outdated to me. The fit/finish, paint, and interior materials have been flawless on the few cars I've seen. The new tech/infotainment system is vastly improved too. Performance wise, stroking the engine and using twin-scroll turbos makes it very nearly as fast as the P1, which needs electric motors to augment torque until its big turbos spool up. It is faster than the 675LT. And it sounds very good with the sports exhaust option, although this is the one area I think Ferrari comes out ahead, even with the 488. Well, Ferrari will probably win on the depreciation curve too, although I think the 720S will fare better in that regard than the 570, and particularly the MP4/650.
What's happening in the super/hypercar market is purely absurd. Exclusive 918 owners get the 911R's at/near MSRP and proceed to sell them for 500K. Same thing happens with other manufacturers.. and for what? So the next guy can store it and hope to make a few bucks on a dummy willing to pay 600k? There will be a few billionaires out there willing to dish out that kind of loot and burn the road up regardless of the loss in value, but most won't. That is a sad reality.. even more so after reading all about the thousands of cars the Sultan of Brunei (and/or his brother) has wasted. I don't have as much experience in a lot of these machines as some of you do, so I can't say each and every one of these cars aren't worth the figures they are going for on the secondary market. I would guess most would say they're not, but if you have the money and want the car, who cares right? My answer on the 720s or 488 is simple.. if you don't track your cars at least occasionally, flip a coin. They're both legit, and on public roads good luck using 50% of either one. No one here can really tell you what the market on either will be in the future anyways.
I fully agree that performance wise on the street its only about bragging right however the 720S has a VERY sculpted body, some love it, some not so much, but it is vastly difference from anything out there on many different levels. The 458 and 488 are quite similar to most eyes. It differs greatly from anything including its predecessors as did the Countach when it fist arrived. Who cares if it does 2.4 or 2.7 secs 0-60 each is more than fast enough to earn you 3 hots and a cot but the prestige of owning something quite unique is pretty appealing to most especially when it is a considerable jump in performance as well. This isn't just a small step forward in evolution
Since when is a good trait to look like a gawky and kitsch Pagani? Also anyone who thinks that a 2017 F1 car sounds "almost as good as a '90s F1 car (especially the best sounding car in F1 history, the N/A V12 412T) is just plain wrong!
As someone who spent some time staring at both a 488 and 720S yesterday the 720S looks like it comes from a different planet. The 488's biggest styling let down is the door handles (which are truly hideous) and the key hole in the door panel on the driver side door. The Mclaren has no faults styling wise in person. I couldn't believe the interior quality. I feels generations above Ferrari in terms of interior gadgets and layout. Here's an interesting observation, however. We are all car people. We know the history, the stats, some of us have driven or owned many of these cars. We know all about Mclaren. I was with some friends yesterday who were just casual car fans. They asked me when we saw the 720S, "what is Mclaren"? That's the difference between Ferrari and Mclaren still. With products like the 720S though, they'll be knowing soon enough.
Watching the video below and see the 675lt pulling so much over the 488, i realy feel Ferrari has to step up the game. 488 almost got beaten by the 570s over the 1/2mile.. What will do the 720s to those cars https://youtu.be/pkT0IuB0hsU
