I totally do. I barely drive at all. I usually don't even keep a car where I'm living. Exotics are cool and all, but I usually just have no need for cars.
How do you equate that to no experience? I test many, own some, and drive them when I have time or feel like it. I think putting 7K or 15K miles on a car over 4-5 years is sufficient. You meet other human beings that you instantly dislike or like, right? You can tell in an instant that some people are just annoying or attractive or whatever. Well, cars about about 1/100000000000000000th as complex as human beings thus it's quite easy to form an opinion on a car without driving it every day for a zillion miles on and off the track. I can get in a car and figure out quite quickly if I like it or not. They're far more one-dimension that enthusiasts would like to admit IMO.
Just as first impressions about people, sometimes are accurate but often times are wrong. The true measure of anything whether it is a human or an inanimate object, is getting fully familiar with it. Cars are multi dimensional. Some are exceptionally exciting after a 30 minute test drive, but do not wear well in the long run when subtle flaws are detected that are disagreeable. One will always be more accurate in their assessment of anything, the more fully knowledgeable they are with that object or person. More information never is a disadvantage while insufficient knowledge can be.
Your post made it seem like you don't own any super cars but you post as if you have opinions based on experience. Was just curious.
The fact that noone1 claims he can get in a car and figure out quite quickly whether he likes it or not, hardly qualifies for anything more than a highly superficial, cursary opinion that essentially has little to no value for others reading his critiques. Without a proper test of the car's driving characteristics, which takes longer than a couple of minutes, what purpose is him stating " I love car x or I hate car B". There is little insight being imparted to anyone reading a comment like that.
Whoever said it was? I don't think driving characteristics even matter any more. Cars changed, infrastructure didn't. Normal roads have very little to offer anymore. All the cars hit unrealistic speeds without breaking a sweat. TC, ESP, DCT... you barely do anything other than point of shoot nowadays.
Depends. I quote an old joke (not written by me) "Sometimes the screwing you're getting isn't worth the screwing you're getting." But they used a different word for "screwing"....
Imho this sounds like someone who doesn't actually have experience with these cars. Driving the cars we discuss here is an event even at regular speeds. Accelerating from 0-80 mph in a Ferrari feels nothing like a "regular" car. Neither does braking or cornering or anything else.
Well, this is an F forum so I assume a few of those McL owners are also F owners. Not sure if Porsche and Lambo cheated but if they do, Ferrari owners are put in the awkward situation of having stones but also living in glass houses.
Just because you find things to be an event doesn't mean everyone else does. I use my cars as cars, not special events. We buy cars for different reasons. I personally wish I could get a full EV exotic that was dead silent. I'm not into engine noise. I know a nice one when I hear it, but I prefer silence or music. I also would like it to self-drive for me when I don't feel like driving anymore. I just don't find modern exotics to be that exciting anymore. Whether it brakes or corners better has become irrelevant because it's now braking and cornering at speeds that are too high to matter. Every patch of road has a maximum speed anyone is really willing to go. As you keep moving the performance up, you find you're not using it anymore. As you move performance up, you realize you interact with the car less and less. 0 - 80? I'm never going under 30 unless I'm coming to a stop. So really, it's 30 - 80. Well, 30 - 80 in the latest exotics means you get to give it throttle for maybe 1.4s. Think about it. Count to 1.4s out loud. That's as long as you can use the throttle and even a second longer will probably mean you're doing 50 mph over the speed limit, and because the car can do under 7 minutes on the NR, it means the car feels like it's on rails because the new tires and ESP/TC can accommodate so much more than you probably can or are willing to request of it.
And yet earlier in this thread the proclamation was made that if you didn’t drive atleast 2000 Miles you can’t have a legitimate opinion of a car. This thread is getting more and more stupid by the day.
My thoughts exactly. 4000 posts and admitting to rarely driving a car, yet puts himself up as a wealth of knowledge for others to take seriously - too funny!! My last run was just shy of 1000kms. Maybe he should watch some of those vids a bit closer.
Actually, I and others experienced having to wait around for the 650 to catch up on numerous occassions. The 650 scrapes, the 720 scrapes, what's the difference? One is just newer and faster. We will be having to lose half the day for the 720 next. Is the brand bad? Their your words. Would I buy one over a F or P car? Absolutely not!! Now maybe if my intended use was just lazy driving around town or, up and down the boulevarde looking pretty, or like noone1 here take it out once in blue moon and drive 2 miles in it, and tell the world how great it is, then it might stand as a proposition. But then I'd have to accept taking a Mike Tyson hit on it when I sell it, and I'm not prepared to do that. We pay a lot more for these cars out here.
People pretending to be experts on cars that they haven't put enough miles on to be experts about.... Pretty simple.
Now that you have revealed your true feelings about cars, yoiu have no credibility at all. Your comments are tantamount to being on a wine forum and stating that firstly you hate the taste of wine, almost never drink it and when you do they all taste the same.
Reading this thread is like binge-watching Frazier. My head is spinning from all the metaphors, psychoanalyzing and pretentious overstatements. I think I'll binge-watch Hogans Heroes just to dumb it down a bit and see if that helps me decide if I want a 720s instead of the 488 I have.
