http://www.f1racing.net/en/news/2007/01/21/mclaren_bans_drivers_from_drinking/ I would have made the same decision, though a long time ago. The rules would be the same for anyone in pit lane, too.
http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_news_item.php?fes_art_id=30363 Pitpass.com seems to think Ron just "warned his drivers to stay off the booze." Which to me seems more like he just doesn't want them to be drunk in public. Either way, unless it's outlined in their contracts, Ron really cannot bar them from drinking. Mark
Lol, the only way to enforce that is to move with both of them. Sounds like an exagerated story. Hey i'm an F1 rookie!
It makes good sense. If you are young rich and an F1 driver there are probably scores of distractions out of the car that may affect your ontrack performance. IRL mid-fielder Dario Franchitti has lived by the no booze during the season rule for years now.
LOL! Dennis even looks like ******. I hope that his lousy team will have a disastrous season. Besides, I thought Häkkinen just got re-involved with them. Anyone who thinks Häkä doesn't drink is clueless. And while they are at it, they should stop Haug from eating everything in sight that cannot escape. That fatass has got to be over 300 lbs. I doubt anyone that obese is optimizing his performance and McLaren's record of engine failures speaks for itself...you cannot oversee an engine program from the buffet. I'm surprised that Maalox is not their primary sponsor.

hahahahaha I'll drink to that. Italians drink a gallon of wine almost daily. Enzo would have quit F1 first. Maybe Dennis thinks this will be an "incentive" to get to the podium so they can have some booze. Let's see if it works. Cheers and down the hatch, boys! PNH I only used to drink on days that end in "y" ... now I only drink on days that begin with "T", Today and Tomorrow.
According to Italian Culture .com, Italians drink an average of 70 liters of wine a year. This converts to 18.49204375 gallons a year. I think I'll move to Tuscany. Ciao PNH
Just imagine what the NFL and NBA woulkd be like where if all the players had written in their contracts: 'Any felony conviction and you are gone for a year with no pay and you have to pay back any signing bonus', and a second conviction means you are gone for good. I'd vote for it. Drives me nuts to read about these 'star' athletes that do stupid things, they are far more gifted than you or I, and they stock 10,000 rounds of ammo, and try to sneak funny stuff on airplanes, and get involved in innocent shootings outside night clubs - at 3 am.
Banning drivers from drinking is plain stupid. If drivers have a problem with their drinking and are not performing they should be dropped on the spot. Why wasn't Kimi let go after his mishaps? I guess he was still fast on the track. MS is the standard for professionalism / work ethics in F1 and from what I recall he would not drink on race weekends or testing sessions but he enjoyed his beer on different ocassions. We'll see how Dennis will enforce this. In any case Spaniards also drink significant amounts of wine...
Looks like the strategy is working. The only way Alonso and Hammi can get a drink is make it to the podium for some champaign. Maybe SF should try this strategy. Kimi would love it. ROTFL
