I got spoiled in the late 90's each time I was in London by walking by the McLaren showroom where they kept an F1 in the window. It was on Park Lane around Hyde Park area near the Dorchester Hotel IIRC.

BTW, what would possess you to make your very first post on a Ferrari board be about the McLaren? Just interested in your thought process.

well its kinda the only thing I wanted to know. I didnt know how to go about gathering information on an F1 and today it came to me: use a forum. I know this ones very popular so I thought I'd give it a try. And also I saw a video online where someone who was driving an F1 was talking about this place... It just seemed to be the best place to go.

That McLaren dealership did have one but I was too young when it was there to know what all the fuss was about and since then, its gone. It's just not the same though, I want to see one roaring past me and hear the sound of the engine! Hopefully one day...

BTW hope I didn't offend any Ferrarichatters by not posting something specifically Ferrari-related.

Try looking in the regional forums.

More guys over there will know of any F1's in your area.

You could try some of the specialist dealers who have little places tucked away in Kensington/Chelsea/Fulham area. They are hard to track down and are always visit by appointment only but if you know where to look then you may catch a glimpse. A cheeky word with a valet or mechanic might get you a closer look!

Sorry the dealership has gone. They got rid of it a long while ago. There is a dealer in London, forgotten the name who has a road one and race one for sale, but they are not "viewable" so to speak.

One day when McLaren opens its Museum, then you will probably see all their cars including the F1. But don't expect that to be anytime soon. When I left it was still a building site area!

I suspect you mean David Clark at Taylor & Crawley, London SW1 (+44-20-7823-2599) - not sure if still there though - my recollection is that Clark was the original sales manager

Here is a quote to tie this thread to Ferrari :

Interviewer: "Will the McLaren F1 be your answer to the Ferrari F40?"
Gordon Murray: "Hmm... I don't think we have anyone at McLaren who can weld that badly..."

    sam,
it's a longshot, but u may want to check the Beaulieu Auto Museum.
thay MAY have one,but no promises;the displays change from time to time.
it's a great way to spend a weekend,as beaulieu is only about 50mins drive
from london,or u can take the coach.
even if it's no longer there, beaulieu has absolutely gorgeous cars on display...
on top of that,it's close to milton keynes;where u can have wonderful meals..

There are no McLarens "on show" in London. There are also none at Beauleu.

hmmm ive got a feeling its a bit of a lost cause. I think the best bet is probably Taylor & Crawley. I'll have to see. If they don't have one, what the hell they've got lots of other spectacular cars on display.

Thanks alot for all the help given.. any more tips? Keep 'em comin!

That was me talking in the video. Actually I was the passenger though, not the driver.

You've already found the best online resource for the McLaren F1 over at AutomotiveForums. I know we didn't have a better answer for your question though unfortunately.

This place has a longtail GTR listed on their website and they displayed the car at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Actually the FOS is probably your best bet "to see one roaring past me and hear the sound of the engine!" There seems to be at least one F1 there every year. Sometimes as many as 3, but they are almost always F1 GTRs.

Good luck - a first hand experience with this car is truly priceless.

I downloaded 3 video clips of an F1 being driven on a circuit. They are in-car clips with good sound. Can't remember where I found them but I'm sure another FChatter will know where they are hosted.

That may give you your sound 'fix' to keep you going until you find the real thing.
