Any idea who they would consider 'headline grabbing' - that's a available ? I'm at a loss McLaren hints at major technical personnel signing amid F1 struggle - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com
No idea but they certainly are wanting in that department. Newey needs some competition, he is in a class of his own at min, seems to me only Merc can come close, however the results do not show that. Ferrari are doing the best they can.
Matt Morris certainly isn't it. There might be an exodus from Lotus given their funding woes, not necessarily headline grabbing, but they produce good cars given the budget. Interesting perspective from a few years ago from Mario Theissen below. Now things have changed with McLaren being bled by Ferrari and Mercedes. McLaren is known to be a systems and process oriented team. For whatever reason it completely broke down last season in producing this car. Autosport published a long interview with Whitmarsh earlier in the season about why this car is the way it is, and it is extremely insightful to people like us about the way they do things; well worth the couple bucks. Both Domenicalli and Whitmarsh need to be replaced if those teams want to get back to the front. If Totto at MB is cracking the door open for Ross, they'd be foolish not to grab him. "I had the impression that Adrian very strongly based his technical team around himself, to his way of working. I was convinced that we needed our design and aerodynamic side to have a structure that was not about one person. When I see today the way that Red Bull has gone, I must say: this person (Newey) is obviously so good that he beats the others no matter their methods. So hats off to him," said Mario Theissen. Former driver and pundit Marc Surer agrees. "For your car design you have two choices: either a great team of designers or a very strong individual. In my view the only great collaborative team is McLaren. All the others try to do it with individual stars, but none of them have a star like Adrian Newey."
+1 Seems they've got way too many "chiefs" there right now. Someone'll jump. Vig - Great post, thanks. I've got a lot of time for Theissen. Will spend the $2 for that I think. Design by individual or by committee...... Cheers, Ian
In searching for the link to it, came across someone that posted it. I don't condone posting what was meant to be a paid article (it's just $1), but here it is anyway. Whitmarsh uncut: how McLaren went off-course - AUTOSPORT+ F1Rejects.com ? View topic - An Interview with Martin Whitmarsh Between bringing Paddy Lowe and these words, seems not so subtle. But he's right, who is he to kick out Ross Brawn. Toto Wolff: ?Who am I to push Ross Brawn out of Mercedes??James Allen on F1 ? The official James Allen website on F1
The only guy who can make a headline and is not seriously tied to another team and/or has left McLaren recently is Ross Brawn, IMO. Although I doubt that Brawn would want to leave Mercedes now that things are starting to work after so much time and $$$ spent.
I hope you're both right (I know it's not Brawn) ! F1 is incomplete without competitive McLaren and Ferrari.
Hmm. Didn't you say something about returning to the land of your birth? Do we really have to read your good news on an anonymous news feed?
Btw - I originally thought a lot of Sam Michaels, but everywhere he's been the teams have gone in the dumps....
There has been talk of Ross Brawn leaving(shoved out of?) Mercedes so it could definitely be him. Maybe Adrian Newey has a twin brother.
