F1's espionage saga involving McLaren may not yet be over, Max Mosley has warned.

Fearing infection by Ferrari secrets, the FIA President said inspectors will enter the team's Woking factory before its 2008 car is allowed to race.

"They could be banned for 2008," he clarified to the Daily Mirror.

"If there is serious evidence the information has influenced the design then we would have to look very seriously at their involvement in 2008. I hope that it won't happen."

In the World Motor Sport Council transcripts, McLaren boss Ron Dennis is quoted as urging Mosley to begin the inspections as soon as possible.

"I care only about the McLaren name," he told Mosley, who chaired the hearings in which a record $100m fine and expulsion from the constructors' championship was imposed.

Dennis added: "Once that inspection has been proven to be devoid of anything that could possibly be related to Ferrari intellectual property, I would like that in the public domain as quickly as possible. "Mosley, however, this week dismissed theories that the spy scandal is the extension of a clash of personalities between himself - a lawyer, physicist and son of a notorious British figure - and former Cooper mechanic Dennis.

"I don't hate Ron," he told the Evening Standard. "We have disagreed (in the past), but that doesn't mean there is personal animus."

Mosley is however openly critical of the British government, saying it will be their fault if the country loses its annual Grand Prix due to a lack of funding.

"The government has lost its virginity over the Olympics. The Grand Prix is far more important. If Britain loses it, the government will have to take the blame," he said.

That will kill f1 if they do it. Not only me but i'm sure half of the fan base would leave if one of the top two teams can't race.

Mosley is the second son of Sir Oswald Mosley, former leader of the British Union of Fascists, and Diana Mitford, admirer of Adolf Hitler. At the age of 11 weeks his Mother was arrested for being a Nazi sympathizer.

    ___

Dude above asked the question, I am only here to protect and to serve.

By the way, if you search out that Wiki reference, you can see a picture of his mother, Diana Mitford. She was considered to be one of the great beauties of her day, and indeed the vintage B&W photos show a lady more strikingly beautiful than Marlene Dietrich, Ingrid Bergman, or Princess Di. She was also a stubborn Nazi sympathizer, and did not renounce it even to her dying day in about 2003.

It is sort of like when Jerry Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys - many of us asked ourselves where he was coming from.

We found out soon enough - he was coming from Arkansas.

    Referee says play on.

What a strange article, I guess they didn't want to run two Max Mosley stories, so they tagged on the stuff about Government funding for a Silverstone upgrade. It just didn't flow...

yes Ferrari are a great bastion of fairness and following the rules, i quite agree that they really shouldnt let this drop - especially considering their own unblemished history. :p

are you an actual F1 fan ?
i only ask because you dont seem to understand much about it.

    nice attitude.

look they all cheat - this has been known for many yrs.
    ferrari are masters at it.
mclaren have long prided themselves on their honour etc - this has now been called into suspicion.
i suspect the truth is that they like any other team on that grid will use any advanatage they can get - but in a more circumspect manner. if you read the transcripts of the WMSC meeting it seems obvious that RD not a party to what happened, but some of the team members certainly were.

it is possible to be a ferrari fan and still want to see good close racing, with a nail biting finish.
and if ferrari win every time then it would be very boring.
bottom line is that the sport is bigger than any team.

Could you give some examples? Or are Ferrari so good at cheating they don't get caught?

You are talking about reading transcripts and questioning who's an F1 fan?
Maybe you should read the transcripts one more time (if you ever did in the first place). You are right that "cheating" is old news in F1 but if you think that McLaren were more noble about it, then you should stop smoking whatever it is. And please, Ron Denis didn't know what was going on in HIS team. What century you live in?
McCheaters pride themselfs on their honor? Not much pride and honor in what the whole world knows they did this year.
It has been called in suspicion? All the suspicion is gone now. It is a fact what they did.
Some people here blame others of looking through a red mist, but you are certainly seeing in black and white.
Ooops, black and silver. Welcome to the age of color tv.l

$30 mill plus this years take to get the $100M. Just about everyone in the real world of F1 considers this to be excessive and absurd.
Here they ask for more blood, no.... demand.
They wont be sated till the baby is cut in half.
