Anyone on here had any experience with the MP4-12C? A good friend of mine just took delivery after owning multiple Ferrari's throughout the years, including 3 458's.

He's having difficulty finding an insurance company for coverage, let alone recognizing the manufacturer...any suggestions?

Also, what about build quality, as the car has some rattles, noises, etc. that you wouldn't expect from a $280K car.

    Feedback is appreciated, thanks.

    Hey Allan,

An Fchat member (and long-time buddy) Evan Cygler is one of the folks @ McLaren of Greenwich. I was fortunate to drive one a few weeks back and absolutely loved it. If of interest, I can introduce the two of you - he'll give you the VIP treatment.

PM me if you'd like me to open the door-

    Kenny,

Thank you, but I do happen to know Evan and the crew up at Greenwich. I was specifically seeking feedback from any other McLaren owners in the tr-state to get their take on the vehicle, particularly the issues my friend is experiencing.

FYI, I'm a big fan of the car and was a factor in his decision for purchasing it.

In terms of insurance, have you tried Chubb?
Chubb insures many big dollar exotics and collectibles. While Chubb is not cheap, they stand behind their product when the s**t hits the fan.

There are some advantages in buying a mass-produced car...and some pitfalls in buying low-volume, niche cars. Maybe rattles, noises, etc. weren't adequately worked out in the McLaren because of low production volume and/or limited budgets? Regardlss of the reason(s), it's a bummer to have problems like that in a $280K car. He has my sympathy.

I've gotten very reasonable quotes from haggerty and Leland west for my Ruf cars. Ruf manufactures only about 30 cars a year

I did a lot of searching for insurance for my 2013 458 Spider. Ended up with Leland West which was the cheapest and had the best plans. Be careful some insurance companies like Barett Jackson only allow you to drive the car to car shows. So be careful and get all the specifics before you agree.

Rattles and other unexpected noises are not normal. Get them checked out. McLaren may be low volume, but they are meticulous. Most likely it is an anomaly that can be rectified. Is the car not under warranty and is the dealer not doing the right thing?

High end specialist insurers are all aware of McLaren.

My 12c has been solid and tight. I have a 458 as well. Insured through allstate no problems.

Well I'm glad to update that my friend has acquired insurance and any issues he was experiencing previously, have gone away. He just called me to thank me for helping him negotiate the transaction and that he is quite enamored with the McLaren.

He tells me that it surpasses the Ferrari 458 in many areas, including ergonomics and ride quality to name just a few. I'm not surprised by his enthusiasm, but I do know that he is ordering a 458 Spider this week, so the McLaren will be around for a little while.
