I hope they go with something original like 5 of 11 teams did last year and go with balck and something something. I know, silver and black! Actually, since they don't have any big sponsors, they should go with something bold. Less likely to get rear ended that way.
they should do white with Orange Marlboro like patterns - based on the old McLaren logo... that is what successful Mclarens look like.
Based on their launch announcement, seems to be the case. Maybe they'll replace the red bits with orange and leave the car predominantly black. Even in 2015 Ron said there were people in the inside the company who wanted an orange but that he vetoed. It'll be one of the few good things from him being fired. I'd also love to see some white on the car, Honda's colors. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great colour scheme - s:censored:t performance! Hence the "inspiration" comment! Some associates of Mine had a meeting with people from the McLaren F1 team recently, and the McLaren people started talking about the teams new "brand synergy". I'm reliably informed that as a part of that discussion, the question of whether the 2017 car was going to be orange was brought up, and after a period of evasive answers, the McLaren PR people wouldn't confirm the colour of the car directly, but did stipulate that the colour orange was strongly associated with McLaren's past, that the company were looking to re-brand itself as part of the new management structure, and that the 2017 F1 car would be tied into the new "brand synergy", especially with it's livery. The impression My associates got was that this all but confirmed that the car will be orange.

Contrary to earlier announcements McLaren will move away from Ron Dennis' MP4 named cars and the 2017 contender will be McLaren-Honda MCL32. Good to make a proper cut to the previous era. Surely that also paves the way for more adventurous color schemes.
I saw on tv a 1972 Mclaren M20 can-am being sold on Mecum Auctions being driven by Peter Revson and he drove it on stage.....the papaya orange and those 8 " trumpets" sticking straight up out back.....AND LOUD!!!! https://www.mecum.com/lots/CA0814-191279/1972-mclaren-m20-can-am/
Yes. It was owned by Dan Devine of Barrington, IL., the next town over from us. He would show it at the Geneva Concours. He would start it up and rattle the whole village!
It was announced today that the color would go back to the traditional and beautiful papaya. Why they insisted on that anonymous black is beyond me, but then......perhaps it did make sense.
FEBRUARY 15, 2017 Boullier confirms colour change for McLaren Eric Boullier has confirmed rumours that McLaren will change livery colour for 2017. With the exit of Ron Dennis, who was vocally opposed to reverting to the British team's iconic orange, McLaren is now hinting at the change with graphics on social media and its official website. "You will see a change in the colour," team boss Boullier confirms. "Wait a few days and you'll find out (what)." Of more interest to many people, however, is whether the Anglo-Japanese collaboration can be much more competitive in 2017, after two particularly bad years with Honda power. Boullier was quoted by La Repubblica newspaper at a Pirelli event in Turin: "We could be the outsider, the surprise of the season. "Honda is working well on the engines and of those who could compete for the title alongside Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari, we could be there as well." Spain's El Mundo Deportivo also quoted the Frenchman as saying: "For McLaren it's a whole new car and a brand new engine, but we are not starting from scratch because we used past experience to make progress." Former long-time McLaren driver David Coulthard thinks the key to McLaren's hopes in 2017 rests mainly with Honda. "McLaren may have done something special with the chassis," he told the Spanish sports daily Marca, "but we'll have to see where the Honda engine is. "McLaren lost a lot of talent in these years, but I think they've kept a lot as well. The fundamental problem they've had has been Honda's engine," Coulthard added. Even Pirelli's Paul Hembery said in Turin: "Maybe with all these changes, Mercedes will not be the team to beat and others like Red Bull, Ferrari or even McLaren will be in the fight too."
Pirelli do have some visibility of the downforce levels of each team. Maybe they know something we don't.
And yet only the other day Honda stated that they were taking a big risk with their new engine design because there were many aspects of it that they have no previous experience of: Honda admits new F1 engine concept "very high-risk" I also seem to recall that there was a lot of talk of Honda domination once more in the new turbo era, based on their past experience of turbo technology - That hasn't panned out quite as some had expected has it!
