McLaren tossing in the towel for NEXT year?

I work in a machine shop - the tighter the tolerances, the more time it takes - IE $$$.

Also, not all engine builds will make the same #'s even if made on the same machines by the same people. There will be tiny differences. Mercedes can dyno the engines, pick the ones with the extra 00.5% percent for their team, etc.

Its also possible Mercedes *could* conceivably run Mclaren intended engines at higher production speeds, resulting in looser tolerances between parts. Ferrari could of been doing this to Red Bull - which is why Red Bull parted ways for Renault as fast as they could.

Then there is support on engine design and integrating the engine/gearbox into the car. If they do not get info in real time, it hurts them compared to Mercedes itself.

I personally, will be very glad to see Honda back in F1. They've made some amazing engines that have been put in some pretty amazing cars over the years.

 

Problems getting heat into tires and wanted to start on softs to minimize place losing on first stint?

 

That out weighs useing them up faster on full tanks?

I think you're confusing me with Steve on that one! He's the one who's been saying that for a while now.

However, I'm not so sure. Seems to me they've simply turned out their version of Clifford this season. Not sure how much is the pullrods and how much is simply that they all do that on occasion. [Apart from Newey right now of course - He's long overdue to get one wrong.]

Coulda fooled me. I thought they already threw in the towel this year...

 

I suspect that McLaren's current issues go beyond just figuring out the pull rod suspension and it seems to Me that they have far more problems than Ferrari had.

As I see it their issues include:

Mechanical balance.
Aero balance.
Geometric issues with the suspension set up.
A lack of correlation between their simulator, wind tunnel and on track data.

It seems I'm not the only one who thinks McLaren's problems are far from simple to fix: BBC Sport - Vettel's Canada dominance down to circuit layout - Gary Anderson (In the "McLAREN IN A MESS" section).

Despite the abilities of their engineers and designers, right now they do not know what is wrong with the car and that will be a serious worry to them!

The one thing that is not currently causing them problems though is the engine!
