http://www.planet-f1.com/News/Story_Page/0,15909,3210_3213_1850815,00.html Well they didn't have any problems the day before. In addition, Renault had similar problems today as well. GO Ferrari in 07, KIMI WDC.
Big deal. That is what pre-season testing is all about - test the components to the max and work out the kinks. Of course as a Ferrari fan, I wouldn't be too disappointed if a few of these faillures occured during the racing season
Sam knowing the history of MB in F1, I don't doubt that it will happen during the racing season. When they changed the rules to a one engine per weekend rule, it seemed like nobody told MB.
Ooooh, an engine failure in pre-season testing...call off the season! This is why they test, in case you have forgotten. to identify weak areas in the car and improve on them prior to the start of the season. What I want to see more than anything is an exciting season that comes down to the wire between Kimi and Alonso, with JB and GF having the occasional win. I like and respect McLaren, I don't have a problem with Ron Dennis, and I won't shed any tears if Alonso wins the title (which I think he will).
I'm torn. I like McLaren, maybe even more than Ferrari, but I can't stand Alonso. Hopefully Hamilton will step up big time. I still can't believe they have a two race engine rule in place. The whole situation is just a joke.
'Ferrari will need a tank for Kimi' Friday January 19 2007 Former Mercedes engine expert Mario Illien has taken a swipe at Kimi Raikkonen, blaming the Finn's driving style for his many retirements during his time with McLaren. According to Illien, Raikkonen is so hard on his cars that his new team, Ferrari, will have to build a tank if they hope to see the Finn finish grands prix. "Ferrari must build Kimi a 'Panzer' (a German Tank), if they want the title with him," the Swiss told the Bild newspaper. "Kimi wants to go flat-out, anything else is of no interest to him. "No other driver goes so hard on the equipment, no one bangs it so hard lap after lap into the kerb." Raikkonen has yet to win a World title although he twice finished runner-up in the Drivers' Championship.
What else do you expect from a guy who is not capable of building a bullet proof engine? Of course he will blame the driver. Totally lame. I can't wait to see McClonk self destruct.
"Kimi wants to go flat-out, anything else is of no interest to him." 'nuf said..... As for McLaren's problem, big deal. They'll work it out, or Alonzo will go Nutsy ***an on Ron Dennis. Thank God McLaren-MB has had a history of engine issues; if they started when FA got there then FA would be screaming about the FIA, Ferrari and vast right wing conspiracy against him.... Last year JB and Honda looked like world beaters in pre-season testing but we all know what happened on race day......
Can they change the problem with the new engine freeze? It's going to be pretty hard to keep the same engine when having problems like this.
I thought I read somewhere that JB scored more points than anyone else over the last 6 races of the season? He had a slow start but he was right there at the end.
I read that too. But it was mostly due steady points finishes - thirds and fourths with only one win. So I wont call it right there - meaning he had one great win in Hungary but he wasn't even close to a win in the other races - it was a Michael/Alonso/Massa show. I am glad that he broke his duck. Also I was impressed with the way he dominated Barrichello pretty much all season.
By right there, I meant he was always high up in the points. As often as not he was running in the top 4 places. The Honda simply didn't have the measure of either the Ferrari or Renault.
In Hungary if Alonso's pitcrew had put the wheelnut on properly ior Bridgestone had competitive wet rubber Button would still have as many GP wins as me......Honda led a lot of preseason tests only to realize that the cars needed more than 5 laps worth of gas; in race trim the cars were definetly second tier...
You're right of course about all that. But it still needed a good driver like Button to finish the race. That twad Massa had a better car yet look at how brilliantly he screwed up his race because he can't drive for **** in the rain.
