Now that Nico Rosberg is out of the picture, who do you think will fill the empty seat at McLaren? And why?

I'm surprised you don't have Jarno on that list. If Alonso goes to Toyota he may insist Jarno isn't there. While I do think Alonso is faster than Jarno he may not want to chance it. If you take a look at the 94 season when Jarno was kicked out of Renault he was only 4 points behind Alonso before moving to Toyota. Both had gone out of 1 race due to an accident, Jarno had 2 retirements due to mechanical failures, Alonso had one. But, Alonso had spun out of two races where Jarno at least finished, albeit it out of the points. Alonso didn't win once while Jarno did win once at Monaco (yes that's where Alonso crashed out). Both were equally quick in qualifying.

So, Alonso may not want to risk having someone who's even close to his speed in the other car and may force Jarno to go in order to get a true number two in the other seat.

Having said that I'm not sure Ron would even consider Jarno. I would but I don't call the shots over there.

Definitely Andreas, he's the only one that would take an F1 seat at McLaren without complaining or accepting any money. Plus, he's the closest to getting an actual Ferrari driver on their team.

I haven't seen this posted - any thoughts on Heidfeld going to McLaren and Alonso going to BMW? I know it looks pretty certain now that he's going to Renault, but just a though.

I think it is Hekki. The thing with Jarno is although he is an excellent qualifier he never races that well.

Now is that his fault, or the car's fault? I'm not convinced that the Toyota can sustain such a pace that would be just behind the Ferrari, Mclaren and BMW cars. Perhaps it's just the ability of guys like Jarno and Mark who can get push those cars to the max in qualifying, knowing that if they drove like that in the race the car would fail? Just a thought.

As for Fernando's replacement, I would imagine it's between Heikki and Sutil. I don't think Ron would put their main tester in for a whole season, as it would be a waste of a seat.

Follow the sponsorship money: I think it will be De la Rosa.

We can all look forward to a new round of latin-bashing, especially on this board, in the English press, and from wonderboy's daaaaaaaadddy.

I would never complain, not ask for money, add some significant weight to the downforce of the car and would never be a challenge to Lewis (nor anybody else on the grid). :)

On a more serious note, it looks like Kantspellhisname will get the seat. I hope he can live up to the pressure. Somehow Stefan Johannson comes to my mind.

I agree with that, but it hardly matters: He is so slow you won't see him on the podium. Which is why I also cannot believe he gets the 2nd seat. When a seasoned driver becomes a test driver it is normally for the reason, that he is simply too slow. We have seen that with Gene, Wurz and Dela Pink. These guys rarely come back and if they do, it ain't pretty and doesn't last long (Wurz).

I don't think not liking Alonso or JPM constitutes Latin bashing. I happen to like Massa, Piquet, etc. Its just that those two first mentioned have an aura about them that brings negative feelings from others. Frankly, Fred deserves his bad image, irrespective of his nationality which has nothing to do with anything. Great driver, but an apparent jerk.

    My guess is Heikki.

But no matter who it is it will be interesting to see how they compare to Hammy since we have a pretty good idea of how good he is. If you can beat Hammy in the same car on a consistent basis, i'd say you are a pretty darn good driver. ;)

Actually, in a first rate car, she probably would be as good as at least 50% of the grid. Look at her consistancy and statistics in IRL, she beat 75% of the men. Please, the second half of the F1 grid is not that impressive. And she wouldn't take any crap from anyone.

Yeah but the fact is she hasn't even won a car race, not even in Atlantics or Barber Dodge or Formula Ford. Also, IRL cars aren't spec, so you can't say she's beat 75% of the men on her own merit. She wouldn't be able to do that if she was driving or AJ Foyt instead of Andretti or Rahal. She may be better than guys like Yamamoto or Albers, but I think you're underestimating the ability of the F1 drivers who aren't in top cars. Those guys have won races and championships in the lower Formula like F3000, F3 etc. which is generally more competitive than the Atlantics or Barber Dodge. Also, I can't recall any F1 driver crying and moaning over the radio about "How they want the weight of not winning a race off their shoulders", while also having a top car. So, so much for her not taking anyone's crap.
