McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh has admitted he is still interested in securing the services of Sebastian Vettel. http://bit.ly/dxsIMd

Ridiculous idea. I think Maclarean has the best pairing of drivers on the grid.
I wonder who he may have in mind to replace.

They could be sending a message to Hamilton's management

Why fix something that isn't broke.

IMO Mclaren have the perfect balance/mix of drivers now, no point in having 2 similar styles in one team, we saw the result of that when Alonso was there.

    Keeping the options open.. maybe.

Completely agree. Plus I don't think Hammy would appreciate Vettel as much as his current teammate.

Why? He is the best balls racer on the grid. Why would he even worry, There is not one team on the grid that would not want him.

To let them know that they have options. Of course they want to keep Hamilton. They are just doing the dance...

As with any major sport - or business for that matter - you have to make everyone believe that they are expendable.

Make a guy too secure, and he won't be at his best.

Vettel is a better long term prospect than Button, in my view.

Also, McLaren could guaranty its supply of Mercedes-Benz engine by having a German driver.

Like always, look at commercial considerations when judging a team's decisions ...

They could just swap em out like Chandok and Yamamoto.

He's just playing mind games, trying to distract Red Bull and Vettel.

Vettel is young and talented. All Whitmarsh said was that he was still interested in him as a FUTURE driver (not until 2012 so another 2 seasons). This will also give Vettel a chance to mature and eliminate the "rookie" mistakes he has been prone to.

Right now McLaren has arguably the strongest driver pairing in F1 with 2 world champions that complement each other due to their contrasting styles. Like Senna and Prost without the animosity and toxic atmosphere. It is what it is.

As strong as Alonso is and as much as I like Massa. I just can't put them in the same category as the McLaren squad... I wish I could :)

I look at it as just an honest answer to an honest question which also has the intended side benefit of keeping both Lewis and Jensen on their toes and not becoming complacent.

    Just how I see it.

MW is just trying to get into Seb's head and sow trouble at RB.
    I can't see Ron D doing this.

Last as I heard from Vettel in an interview was that he'd like to drive for Ferrari in the future!.

I also seem to recall Ferrari saying they were keeping an eye on Vettels career.

I don't think there is any team on the grid today that would not consider signing Vettel if they have a chance to do so, and that includes Ferrari. IMO, the question is not if any one will want to sign him but more if Vettel and the other driver can co-exist or not.
