For several years I have been able to get a waiver for my 308GTSI and my Countach. Now they are telling me I have to have it hooked up to a machine and I can't imagine it passing the required test.
Has anyone dealt with this situation recently and a way around it?

    Thanks ,

    Ken,

Your Lambo is eligible for MD historic plates, being over 20 years old. That means no inspections or emissions testing.

I'm assuming you only put a few thousand miles a year on it. I got historic tags for my '86 Porsche and it's working out great.

Although it does require effort, getting these older cars through tailpipe emissions is rarely THAT difficult. I do believe that vintage plates is the only loop hole left for that though.

historic tags cost about $50 vs. $130 (no brainer) However, if you have a FI Countach, if it is running properly, it should pass without a problem.

I worried for nothing as it passed. I also checked into Historic tags and I plan to put both cars under this category. No Inspection at all needed. Just $51 plus the cost of my custom tags and its a done deal.
    Thanks for the comments.

I drive em... I saw you last weekend with your Mustang GT 350 heading to the gas station. I was in the wrong lane or I would have turned in to catch up with you.
    Hope all is well......

Ken, I'd get the historic plates and "retune" the car to run better for when you're offroad.

    :)

For future reference to anyone getting the "tailpipe" test on an older car, just let off the gas very slow when the guy tells you to take your foot off the gas. He will tell you to hold the gas at 2000 rpm and then ask you to let off. Let off slow and almost anything will pass.
