I read the great website info on 348 spider ownership. On a scale of 1 to 10 how much mechanical ability to do you need to do some of the work on the 348's? I got to know my 308 a bit and found it somewhat easy to work on (minor stuff). I am not a mechanic by ANY means but a lot of pics and layman terms really helped in dealing with what I did on my 308. It was mostly plug and play. I plan on taking some basic courses in engine rebuild to understand the cam belt changing and timing. Also for some reason I have a mental block with electronics which I can't explain. I will also save up a little to build a workshop so I can work on cars. This would be in the distant future. Dropping the 348 engine and doing the belts and other issues (gearbox) still seems like a scary task by myself.

It is, afterall, just a bunch of mechanical components--assembled like a swiss watch.

If you worked on your 308 then you can work on a 348.

I agree that with the assistance of the Stooges here, there some jobs that you can do. I have no background in automotive mechanics either, yet with the step-by-step instructions I was able to take apart my clutch and get at some seals that were leaking. Was frightening at first, but everyone here had my back ;)
