If I want to do a mechanical gauge test of oil pressure in a 355 .. where do I insert the test gauge? ... just take the oil sender unit out and use that .. or is there someplace else? Regards

I need to remove the sender on my 308Gt4. From anyone who has done this before, is it me, or is there no space to get a spanner in there? Do I have ot remove all the surrounding tubing and/or remove the fitment the actual oil filter itself attaches to? THX
Most auto supply stores carry an aftermarket generic mechanical oil pressure gauge and fittings to screw into the engine block at the site of the electric sending unit. The adapter simply replaces the existing electric sending unit, and includes small caliber hard plastic hose and appropriate fittings. The plastic hose and fittings are similar to the water hose and fittings on your refrigerator. Jim S.
I did pick up a generic gauge and the fittings ... trouble is on the 355, the OEM sender unit has ~ 17 mm diameter male fitting ... about twice the size (and metric!) of the generic unit. I went to all the standard auto stores and got zip. Eventually gave up, but asked the local Ferrari dealer to keep a broken one for me if they come upon one. Regards, Pete
Pete, Go to a hydraulics shop, and get a metric male plug, of the right size. You can then drill and tap a smaller hole, in the plug, to accept the generic fitting.

I think if you do a search you'll find quite a bit of information on this. If it's the orginal sender, you should be able to find a wrench that will fit. If it's been replaced, the newer part is somewhat bigger and it's a bugger to get out. I've heard of needle nose vise grips doing the job. It's not a big deal to take off the oil filter adapter, which makes life much easier. Probably the biggest opportunity for screwup is having gasket material fall down into the hole that feeds oil to the entire engine. You'll need a new gasket, and copper sealing washers for the oil line.
