My wife spent 4 of the last years in evening classes finishing her MBA (wth the local Jesuits). She recently spotted a class in a San Mateo catalogue that teaches auto mechanics: tune ups, suspension, electric and elecronic diganostics, a/c, etc. I can actually turn a wrench, but my knowledge is specialized (mostly Alfa maintenance), it is filled with huge gaps, and....I kinda taught myself.

It is 18 weeks of classes, starting in August, twice a week (Tue, Th), from 6-9.30 pm, and it costs.....$80 !!!!!! It is being taugh at Hillsdale High School. Even if I have spotty attandance, I will still learn something.

I will just have to park the Maserati or Ferrari a block away from the high school...
    :)

Anyone ever had an interest, or am I the only one who did not take high school shop? (We had military training in Europe, instead).

Man, this sounds like a lot of fun! 18 weeks, 7 hours a week is a lot of school, and $80 is quite a deal.

I wouldn't want to miss the lecture on "how to tune a 6-carb setup" ;^P.

Hmmm. That's sounds interesting. Is this a beginner's course for people with absolutely no mechanical experience? Or does one need at least some rudimentry experience?

I think that if you know the difference between a socket and a nail gun....and you bring $80, well...you are in !

That's definately the ROP program. I started to do the auto shop ROP class for body repair, but then the shop at my high school got shut down so we dropped that one. Did another program for A+/CompTia stuff, learned quite a bit through that.

Sign up as soon as you can because the auto classes fill up quite fast (although there are sometimes a lot of people who drop it after a few weeks).

.....I did sign up for the class. They had 12 people sign up and usually take about 30 people.
I am told I might even get a certificate ! (I will bring it to the next Concorso Italiano and display next to Ferrari Barbie on the dash. BTW, she did make the last Ferrari Pacific newsletter color insert)
