Based on a recent high profile banning, it got me wondering:

Does a banned user have the ability to see Fchat, simply not post?

Does a banned user have the ability to see pictures on Fchat?

Bans are by IP address, I presume. How do you ban somebody with a dial-up connection or something like an IP cloaking software?

    Just curious...

I thought they just start using their alias's and go underground. They'd have the same useage as an unsubscribed user.

horsefly, I didn't mean for that to be a link. It was just a {u} {/u} underline.

Banned users go to Italy, get rebodied, and reappear a few weeks later at Pebble Beach.

When a user is banned from Ferrarichat.com they are done so based on username, due to the use of dynamic IP address allocation by ISP's it would be impractical to ban per IP address in the majority of cases, although it can and has been done in the case of certain spammers and trolls where duplicate accounts have been the only "people" to use a specific IP

A banned user logging onto the forum merley see's a screen displaying the message / reason for the banning, for example "Banned by ********for unsolicited advertisement / spam", if the banned user deleted his/her cookies I belive that they can then see the forum but cannot post

Correct, and as a guest user they would not be able to see pictures.

In addition, guest users cannot see subscribed forums, nor either of the OT forums

I thought you guys had 'em wacked, for real. Now you tell me you've just disconnected them from the IntraWeb.
I was one of the voices urging a ban for Dan- after his continued, unabated postings despite the proscription that he either put up (produce some evidence of a PPI after dragging one dealer thru the mud and repeatedly seeking advice on cars he didn't buy) or shut up (by acknowledging that he was being a jerk and apologizing). He did neither, and despite at least one or more warnings that he cease posting altogether, in any form, until he did one or the other, he continued to post on various F-Chat fora.
When his local cronies called him out on some reckless driving with their group the other day, and Dan chimed in, once again, with smilies, I thought it was high time he got kicked off here. Sorry if I deprived anyone of a punching bag, or of a chat buddy. I personally do not have the power to moderate or ban anybody, and don't really want the day to day responsibility. But, to the extent there is any question who pushed the powers that be to finally lower the boom on this turkey, 'twas me. (Copping to it to head off any accusations that there is a hidden agenda here to whack people that don't fit into a clique. I have never, in my nearly five years on this board, seen fit to beseech the powers that be to do this. And, for what it's worth, I think the determination was made, not based simply on my request, but on the understanding that Dan had violated the terms of any continued posting privileges here). I also take issue with the ******* way in which he responded to accusations about his reckless driving in a crew of others, but as I was told by a few, being an ******* is no basis for banning anybody. (Thank goodness, right?).

Gee...long guess as to who blackgallardo is.

Some people need to be banished from the internet for eternity.

Maybe I missed a key post linking the two, but I thought that blackgallardo and Dan were two different twits. Similar behavior, but different. I agree with everything else regarding the low likelihood of ever selling a car to either one.

Edit: blackgallardo first registered on 6/27 while Dan's troubles started when he first got called out in his Diablo thread that was started 7/8.

eff "blackgallardo" is better known on here as "Dan Ciezniewzky". A 22 year old kid who lives with mom and dad. He has no money and is not in the market for anything other than a swift kick in the ass.

"Dan Ciezniewzky" got banned after endlessly posing and wasting people's time claiming he was buying a 6.0. "Dan" popped back up on here posing as "blackgallardo" who went on wasting people's time claiming he's buying a Ferrari and was banned agan as a result.

Banned users often come back. They just re-register under a different user name and sometimes they come back a bit wiser at how to avoid getting caught out. Here is an example: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71324 Steve275 who claimed to own all manner of rare cars was re-incarnated as Boxer512. Only smart detective work by the mods spotted him the second time. As it happens he is now back among us this time registered as Argento (confirmed as using the same IP address). In this case, it is rather a shame he choses to lie so much because he clearly knows a lot about Ferraris and could easily be a valuable member of the FChat community. Claiming to own a Daytona that I happened to know the real owner of revealed the truth this time, but not necessarily to the satisfaction of the mods, which is why he isn't banned again.

He claims an angry ex employee took his identity when posting on F-Chat. Now that would explain a lot but not his current claim of owning that Daytona. It would be much simpler if we knew eachother in real life too and not just on a computer screen. It's way too easy to make up stories and claims on the internet without being caught (allthough I have to say the F-Chat police has impressed me quite a few times now).
Currently everything Argento posts I take with a grain of salt because of the steve275 etc. history.

Some users get "banned" (a very pejorative word - a better word would be "excluded") simply because Lay is a simple child who likes to exercise his "power". Only takes 30 seconds to get a new identity and still get all the benefits of this site. A minor inconvenience.

Which is a shame because he is clearly has a lot of knowledge. Much better for him and us if he could just be honest. It doesn't matter that he doesn't own all sorts of exciting Ferraris. There are a lot of people with a lot to add who don't and have never owned a Ferrari. But what you do want is to feel that you can trust what people are saying on here and this sort of thing does no-one any favours.

So, if we pull together the disparate threads on this user, Dan C., he plagues the Lambo board for months about this car, and that car, no that one's not quite right, maybe I'll buy a different one and paint it, what about this one, taking up user time, private seller time, and dealer time. Dan C. is called on it, and in the process, disparages one of the dealers, saying that he declined to buy the car b/c it did not meet the representations made by the dealer- when the reality was, Dan C. was not a real buyer.
It is then revealed that Dan C. is a 22 y/o who lives at home, and might have a job~ but who continues to claim that he is a bona fide buyer. Despite questions about his financial ability to do so, Dan C. claims that he has the necessary funds and is serious . He is ultimately told by a mod that he must either prove his bona fides by showing that he at least got a PPI on one of the many cars he has bothered people about, or confess that he is a time waster and has been a jerk. Short of that, he is barred from continuing to post.
Dan C. does neither- no proof of PPI, no apology for being a wanker. But he continues to post.
At the same time, a 'new' user, Black Gallardo, starts a thread about buying a 355 and according to the seller of that car, made a contract to buy it. Then, it turns out that Black Gallardo is refused a loan by his bank because he was not prepared to put any money down. Black Gallardo claims that he owns real estate, and that the bank was wrong in denying his loan application.

While this is going on, some locals go on a run and discover Dan C. to be a reckless, immature driver who puts them and others at risk. They call him on it in a thread and he posts some more, claiming that he is simply a better and more skilled driver than those criticizing him.

In the meantime, it turns out that Black Gallardo is none other than Dan C., who has now wasted the time of yet another seller, for another car, misleading yet another seller who turned down other potential buyers to deal with him.

    Have I missed anything?

BlackGallardo is most likely NOT Dan C.

No IP matches, BG is posting from a PacBall location and BG is identified in another thread as "Jeff in Califorina" by someone who should know. Dan is clearly in the Midwest
