I'm too cheap to start a poll....so...write as much as you like, but a yes or no will suffice.

Should your mechanic take it upon himself to take your car out for a drive and push it hard enough that it redlines/loses traction/locks brakes etc?

    NO

I'd be really pissed off to be driving one way and seeing my car being driven in the other direction at relatively high speed. There's never any need for it.

    a) if you trust them (ie you know they're doing it for testing purposes and not for joy rides)
    2) they're properly insured
iii) they are testing the parameters of the stuff *they* did to your car
    d) they can do it without breaking the law (much), and/or they will cop any speed/fines associated with the car whilst in their control

    then my answer's yes.

i caught a mechanic driving my wife's CLK55 and doing burnouts, the dealership went to lengths to deny it, but photo proof did enuf, all i got was a sorry, and sorry dont cut it, i want that idiot sacked and a free service and noted that should anything ever go wrong with the car it will be their fault.

all i got was SFA, but then i didnt buy any more cars from them

and the ferrari dealer in adelaide had a mechanic take out a new maser coupe and stacked into a pole, the dealer told the owner he was gonna fix it and the car had done 2000km. the dealer ended up selling him a new 612 with lots of gross missing like about 150 off list. and the 612 owner is a hairdresser

    HELL YES!!!!

BUT!!.............all depends on the road test/repairs that need to be checked out at the customers request.
Some customers used to come in and tell us their V8 Commodores/whatever used to have a 'miss' at redline. SO.......pappy had to test drive the car at redline to start diagnosing that 'miss'. Had one guy come in with a EL XR6 which had a nasty steering wheel shake at 150km/h. NO BS!! I asked when do you ever drive at 150km/h in QLD? He wanted us to look at it because he drives at 150km/h when driving on holidays. Crazy! I test drove that thing on the highway (where I take my 348 speeding, it is a quiet stretch of road) at 150km/h for many miles to sort that problem out. Another issue with brakes pulling to 1 side. I test drove the car, locking the brakes on a few times (causing small flat spots on the cars tyres too) to check that one out. The list goes on. You would NEVER do a service on a customers car and then go joy riding in it. pushing it HARD just for fun! NO WAY! But any of the above circumstances is ok by me. :)

if you'd read the original question pap, you'd see it was on the premise that the mechanic took it upon himself. obviously is you ask him to do it, then that's a different matter.

a hardly applies, as the question was "takes it upon himself"

2...well.."sorry mate...i was driving your car rather quickly when a dog jumped out on the road....as i was driving so fast (we're talking 0-100 in less than 5 seconds for all late model ferraris, remember) i didn't have time to stop, so i swerved and ran into a pole. don't worry...i'm insured!"

Ok, im sorry. But why would you think a mechanic would do that for?? Thrash your car?? Look for more work.....? :)
I have taken it upon myself many many times. When I service cars, I road test them, sensibly of course. If I hear a noise or feel the brakes are crap ect......I will take it upon myself to check it out, while doing the road test. Then pass the info onto the customer when they pick the car up. Their choice if they want the extra work done at another time or not. I have never taken someones car to just thrash/redline ect.........as you stated in your 1st post.
So to answer the question correctly this time.......HELL YES AGAIN!! :D

if i take my car in for a routine service, i don't expect that the mechanic's going to take it out for a thrash.

however, you can do what you like. i most certainly wouldn't trust you with my car knowing that....but then...i love my car :)

 There should be no reason to thrash your car after a routine service PP.
But........you can trust me with your car as you can with Tiki. I have a fine love for fast cars and fast women.

there's no reason to thrash the car after any service!

    that's just rubbish.

if there's a problem with a car that can do over 250kph and goes 0-100 like our cars, then put the thing on a dyno and be scientific about it.

    you should know better.

Who ever said the car gets thrashed after 'any' service. It can be done 2 ways PP.

    1. Road test after service.....spot an issue. Leave it go till it gets worse/breaks ect...Costs the owner more in the end. Plus will happily get the car back to road test again for more money. Never worried me in any way.

    2. Road test after service......spot and issue. Drive car (HARD IF NECESSARY) to pin point the problem depending on what it is.......tell the owner when they pick the car up what needs to be done. More work for you, customer is happy to know we took the time to check it out for them, without charging any more money. 99% of the time, you DONT thrash the car!! Who the f*ck said it gets thrashed after a service anyway.???? Not me......
I drive the car hard, IF NEEDED to find that miss at high RPM or that knock when going into corners ect..... Only in the last year or so my friend has got the only Dyno in town. We then sent him all the dyno related engine problem issues. No NEED to drive car hard down the road to sort that miss out anymore. ;)
