On a flight home, our plane diverted to land because a passenger developed a grave medical emergency. The pilot brought the plane down more quickly than usual - not quite a carrier landing but a bit harder than usual. Within minutes, a team of paramedics was on board. The situation was very serious because they tended to the passenger on the plane for quite awhile before moving him. In fact, he's still here and so are we!

What are the protocols for this kind of event?

Not being a pilot, but an educated guess: "LAND NOW!!!"

    Well, yeah.

I was wondering if they have to locate and remove all of the passenger's luggage. Do we change planes, that sort of thing.

And it would be great if you all prayed for him.

I would have to assume "land now, get sick person off" - all else is utterly secondary
at that point. Again, just a logical guess. I would further guess the same plane then
goes on, delayed, no change in the rest of the passengers. Unless of course it was
a contagion concern - of course new plane would be required at that point I would guess. And hope.

I'll defer for the experts to chime in, but seems fairly obvious to me. At least I would HOPE :p

Seems it was a heart attack so no worries about contagion. Plane is being refueled so I think we are just going to continue on once we have preflight done, file new flight plan and get tower to give us TO slot.

Sounds fair to me... I'd hope to have the same treatment if I flat-lined at 36k feet....
