Hi all, I'm thinking of starting flying lessons soon (living two miles from an airport finally got to me). But I'm nervous. I know that my vision meets Class C requirements in one eye but not the other (20/30 & 20/80). From what I've been reading online, this is not very uncommon, and I could go through a waiver process to get my certificate. But I'd hate to begin training only to have a waiver denied. Has anyone been through this process? Is it possible to go through the medical exam first, to see if I should even bother signing up for training? Thanks! gb
Hi GB I wouldn't worry about it. If this is your first time around I would get a first class medical just to make sure nothing is wrong. You will not have a problem with that. I have glasses for reading and have no restriction on my medical. Actually it has been back and fourth. The only thing that should happen is 1: you get the medical no problem 2: you get the medical with no problem but there is a restriction on it that says you must have corrective lenses with you in the aircraft. There are airline pilots out there that have glasses as thick as a beer mug Find an examiner here http://www.faa.gov/pilots/amelocator/ Once you find an examiner call to make your appointment. Then ask them about your eyes. They should say it shouldnt be a problem. If they say anything that sounds like it will be a problem. Send me a message or put a post up. I will help you out Airfreddy
