Remember when we put our beloved black lab Onyx to sleep back in October? We went a while without a friend for Onyx's brother, Max. Thursday was a slow day at work, so I headed out to the humane society by my office and found this little girl. We "rescued" her today. Her name is Gracie, and she is a 77lb Lab/great Dane mix. She is 7 years old and had been at the shelter since July, apparently passed up by people who would rather have puppies instead of an older dog with some issues. She was turned in emaciated with her eyes crusted shut and needs eye drops twice a day due to a permanent case of dry eye. We are very happy to oblige. She is so sweet and she has taken to our home very well. I got her for my fiancee for Xmas. The ladies at the shelter cried when we took her. My fiancee cried when I took her down there to meet Gracie. Max is fine around her. Welcome home, Gracie. The couch is apparently yours, baby. Congrats Dude...she's adorable. My GF got teary eyed when she read you adopted the older dog with some issues. You;re a good man.
U R Awesome! Gracie is on the couch just thinking about the great people that adopted her and hopes that she'll never have to go back to the shelter again. If I can send you some freshly baked whole wheat - rolled oats - peanut butter dog biscuits, drop me a PM and I'll UPS a box to you. You may look into www.petinsurance.com and see what their rates may be for an older dog. Also, you may want to trim her nails a bit. Please post a few pics when she wakes up!
Congrats on the new companion! How does the leather couch fare with the dog claws on it? I've been hesitant to purchase a leather couch because of it.
you have a big, big heart. that poor baby, starving, abandoned out in the street with her eyes crusted shut, I can't imagine how traumatic that must've been. she's got a good home now, and the love she needs. I'm a real softy for animals, esp dogs and cats. I'm a little weepy now, thanks. I saw this vid recently about a dog who heroically risked his life on a busy highway to try to save and protect his friend, another dog. Costanera Norte is the name of a highway in Chile, and the video was taken by the highway monitoring cameras. http://www.break.com/index/dog-saves-best-friends-life.html there, now you can all be weepy with me.
I started to watch it and turned it off.....Tell me that I will not see a dog het clobbered by a car.
you will see a dog get hit by a car. it's awful, but it's not graphic (I wouldn't post such a thing without warning). you will then see another dog heroically risk its own life to pull the first dog to the side of the road.
Rosco, Strongest heartfelt congratulations. You are a good man and there are fewer and fewer of us left. cheers, RE
Thank you. I get the visual, but will pass on watching it. Sidenote: I asked my Vet for some pain med's for Rigby, just in case she ever got hit. Where I live, it could be an hour ride to the nearest Vet if it's after hours and I fear that if she ever got hit by a car and was in a lot of pain, I could at least get her out of pain until she can be seen. The Vet said no to my request, even with good reasoning. The main reason for the NO was the fact that I live in an area of high drug abuse. Nothing would kill me more than seeing Rigby in unbarable pain of something were to happen to her.
Do you happen to have a pic of her standing up? She looks very similar to my dog and we've always wondered what he was (other than mostly black lab). He's around 120, so great dane/lab would make sense.
