As some of you may have come across my posts about finding out that I might be a father on here. Well it is official i am truly indeed a father to a fascinating 7 year old that is living in Idaho with her mother. The sad thing is the fact that I did not know about her until a few months ago:(

So i would like to introduce my daughter Sydni Janet.

    http://www.jet-fighters.net/sj.jpg

Turns out that she is quite like her father in the fact that she is fascinated with airplanes and flying, Very strong in math, extremely competitive, Enjoys Hard Rock/Metal music......

Over the past couple of months we have been getting to know each other better through phone calls and i have been out to visit with her and her mother once so far. The wild thing is that she has made it a point to know when her birthday is 6/23/01. When I asked her what she wants for her 8th birthday her answer "I want you to be at my birthday party!!"

All I can say is I am behind the 8 ball big time on this one, but I am excited to be a father and the challenge that is ahead for the 2 of us:)

That's great. Have a lot of fun with her, there's no other feeling like having a daughter (I have 2) who looks up to their father. It sounds like you'll make a very positive impact on her life.

I can only hope so. Every time we talk on the phone she floors me with the questions that she asks me and of the things that interest her. All i can say she is not your typical everyday 7 year old. A few of our phone conversations have gone on well over 2 hours in length, with her doing a lot of the talking.

I won't sprinkle this reply with a bunch of happy horse ****. I feel bad for you. It has got to really suck being in your shoes. Your daughter is really a cutie and she looks like a happy kid. All kids need a Dad and I am SO hopeful that you will be able to work all of this out so you can be with her. You are a good guy and I'd bet you would be the BOMBE Daddy! Best of luck on your road ahead:)

I smiled when I saw the pics and read your post.

You're very quickly turning into a proud papa! And for good reason, she sounds like a pretty awesome kid. Glad to hear everything is going well, that girl is gonna be a LOT better off having Dad in her life.

when I first heard that I might be a father I was really feeling down and had lots of fear as I could not even talk to the mother much less the kid. Once the mother started to talk to me and let me talk to her I could feel the pressure start to dissipate from my life. In fact people that I deal with everyday noticed that I smile all of the time.

I know it is a going to be a tough road ahead, but I have already started to look for employment closer to her. So that I can be able to spend more one on one time with her, and be able to watch her grow and develop into the best she can be.

Congratulations on the opportunity to be a Dad!

You are now a VIP (very important person) to some one dear.
Every thing you do with her and say to her will be permanently recorded in her memories of you.
She has found her missing parent and you, your missing child.
Make each day a special one in some small way.

She's so cute! I guess it's got to be weird to suddenly be a dad like that but you seem to be making the best of it. I'm glad that you are making such an effort to be a part of her life. So many fathers (and mothers too) don't do that.

It is beyond belief how much something like this can change your outlook on life in general. For example I was thinking of getting back into motocross racing but decided that I don't want to get hurt to the point that I cannot enjoy helping her out. I am happy where I am living and working, but now I feel that I must move closer to her and find a better job. This list just keeps growing and growing. Thankfully i have a good cell phone plan and lots of roll over minutes as i have run up nearly 48 hours in the last 2 months on my phone!!!!

Those people that don't care about the children that created a child are coward POS's in my book.

Good man! The will to pack up is the right thing! If Mom is opening up, half the battle is a done deal. If you are 'casual' in your effort, you'll probably get farther than the guy who throws himself at the entire situation.

    Keep smiling!

    Awesome!

When I first read your story on the original post I was skeptical about how it would/could work out. Especially skeptical because of the distance involved. I'm happy to see that you are considering moving - DO IT!

My daughter's mother and I have been divorced for nearly 12 years. We have never lived more than 3 miles apart - and have been only a few blocks apart for the past 6 years. Absolutely nothing replaces the ability to take even 5 minutes of time to spend with your child. It also helps the my ex and I are actually best of friends (and I with her new husband) - so work on keeping that sort of relationship with the mother.
