better pic of a well used F50 engine bay...CF can be refinished in lieu of paying around 26k for that intake ! It comes in 3 pieces...center piece with cavallino, and 2 side "Y" pieces that are thought of very highly by the ferrari parts department... Image Unavailable, Please Login
My question failed to get answered in the "other thread", what was the purpose for the odd shaped rear view mirror in the F50? Was is always painted the same as the body colour?
I totally missed your question: I have only ever seen the mirror color-coded to the body color of the car and have noted this with both red and yellow painted that color originally. Although I am not at all certain, I think the shape is part styling, part conforming to the rear view which is dominated by the two humps behind each seat which house the roll/head bars. Perhaps the uneven bias from side-to-side is with respect to the driver's point-of-view as he sits on the driver's side. It clearly is a neat touch, unique to the car...
The shape of the F50 rear view mirror is definitely a neat and unique touch indeed, thanks for your insight Joe!
Sorry again, but due to the overwhelming response to this thread and its unprecedented growth rate its been hard to keep up!
Let's kill two birds with one stone here, and answer both trivia questions (mine and yours). This is the first of four RHD F50s, 102852. This car used to be silver. And that's not just any radio - there's a 10 disc changer under the front bonnet...!
I dont like the F50 in nero. And i dont like the RHD one. The leather in that particular car looks to be taken straight from a NYC cab.
My understanding is that the shape has to do with the differing roof configurations and visibility. They were painted body colour. Also, if you look at the RHD car pictured, the mirror is mounted upside down
Ya tasteless clod, the nero is evil. Leather is a bit pimptastic, but it'd be cool in more subdued colors. The Azurro car was nice, IIRC that is Alex's. On the yellow cars, didn't Paul Frame have a yellow one on cover of R&T? I think it had a furry interior
Joe - Many thanks for your invaluable assistance. It likely would not have happened without your participation!
No need for competing discussions on the same topic in the same forum so, threads merged. Since the major players in these threads were the same ones involved in side-tracking the rear air fence thread (and it's obvious why the most recent F50 thread was created in the first place), here's a reminder to all: Keep it on-topic and no bickering.
I agree with Shaq Sfu, the Nero is devilishly evil and imputrescible and its image should be branded into the memory of every living organism that has ever existed. Was Alex's car; he sold it and it was last noted to be for sale at Professional Auto Exchange in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. This is news to me - I have no details on a 'furry' interior. I would love to learn more about this...? Did Frame have more than one F50...? More than one yellow F50...?
A short clip of an F50 cockpit sound under acceleration....gives you a great idea of the engine note and how much it differs from the F40. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwCWhW1pbnc
Paul had only one F50 IIRC, yellow. R&T cover car? I don't remember who had the Azzurro car, I thought it was in TX as well, Risi Dallas or Boardwalk had it when blue. Frame had an Azzurro 355B, but I don't recall a blue F50. The furry interior was a joke. Some of us here have long memories, and there was a court case involving Challenge cars, girlfriends, animal costumes, and bondage somewhere. OK, Carb, can you give me the vin on Pauls' car and the R&T car if different, and where Alex's car was when new, when color change happened?
Frame's car is/was 103806; now in the northeast. But if it was ever featured on the cover of Road & Track, I don't know about it. Problem is, I can't find any other F50s that have been in R&T either. I did find a red one that was featured in Car and Driver (103139, 003/349, Euro car that bounced around here in the US). Alex's car, formerly liveried in Azzurro California, is 103921. New, it was owned by a guy with whom I had a lengthy telephone conversation one day: Dahr Jamail. Awesome guy - could've sued me one time, but that's another story for another day. Dahr had the car painted Azzurro some time in or before 1998, and it was repainted red some time between '98 and 2005. I wish I could provide more specifics on that, sorry, but I just don't have the intel. One night of Titty Bingo should get you all of the details though, right...? I have Frame owning F355 Challenge 100608, red/black; do you know if he painted the car, or had another one...?
