Mega Thread: The FERRARI F50

I am truly sorry to see how this has unfolded. Gus is an honorable guy, and I'm certain that he would not promise to do something and then go back on his word. Perhaps there was some confusion between the time line of PM's and the perceived time that Gus was to come into this thread and let everyone in on the joke between himself and Gene. It looks like a lot of posting and PM's took place in a relatively short period of time. In any case, I think it's a shame to see a ban placed on Gus. He's offered to share a lot with this forum, much to the delight of many members.

 

Gus needs to practice what he preaches. In the stolen Lambo thread he talked some sense into the kid whose Lambo was seized, mostly told him to play by the rules to help him get his car back. I am kind of shocked that a man who took the time to show that kid the light would react by being a baby about a 3-day ban. We're all expected to play by the rules here, the only one acting inappropriate is Gus. I haven't read a lot of his posts but I did like what I saw on the Lambo thread. He should go back and read some of what he wrote there and chalk the 3 days up to a learning experience and move on. Preferably as a contributing member instead of one upset over something as trivial as a temp. ban.

 

But what about the HUMILIATION he has endured?

Dave does not get it. One more time. All the timing of the pm is irrelevant. Bottom line is that I was warned that Gene and I will get banned if we continue on arguing. I responded we are not. He responded back stating people like him did not know it was a joke. I assumed I could continue with the jokes and volunteered that both Gene and I will let the forum know it was a joke. Again, he did not spell out to me that I was restricted with joking with a dear friend of mine nor did I thought I was breaking any rules. I am not being a baby like Gator FL said. I don't care whether it is a ban of three days or forever. The way this man came out totally out of the blue and go on a rampage, it is not called for whether to me or any other member of Ferrari Chat. He wants to close this topic because he got caught acting like a total jackass.

Again, No warning from David M. that we are not allowed to tease each other, PERIOD.

 

If you haven't noticed, it's not the TIME away from Ferrarichat that is angering Gus.. It is the statement behind the moderation.

The josh situation is completely different than this. Horrible comparison.

Btw, since all of you are stating that he "broke the rules", please share with us what rules he broke.

It is in my thought that these rules were procured in a few hours and a ban (it doesn't matter the time, stop referencing to it as being trivial because of it.. the statement remains) was instituted.


Misunderstandings happen all of the time. The difference is that rather than recognizing it as a misunderstanding and lifting the ban, Gus is being benched and treated like a second-rate uncontributing member.

Pretty clear there was no misunderstanding here. He was told to knock it off and continued, so he got a slap on the wrist. No big deal. I do believe he contributes, he knocked some sense into the kid in the stolen Lambo thread, as I said.

 

The bottom line in my opinion is that this is a chat site and not a deathrow . I am a mod at 2 other forums and a little air doesnt hurt, esp when all is explained and no one is complaining anymore.

What a joke. It appears that they were joking and Gus even said so. Gus is a HUGE contribution/addition to Ferrari Chat and one hell of an enthusist. While I understand the need to have rules this just seems like just another case of the MAN holding a brotha down!

Dave, your time line is very informative and extremely precise. Thank you. However, you know you acted in haste but will not admit it. You never made it clear that Gus nor to me that rules were being broken by us joking around. Once it was apparent that there was no hostility between us, you should off gone back to grilling and drinking beer instead of coming to judgment on my good buddy Gus. What is this world coming too? What's next anarchy?

Honestly, I think this is the real rub with Gus. He feels like someone pulled the rug out from under him without giving him a chance to tell his side of the story. We can go back and forth debating about how everyone on the web should have thicker skin, and that it was only a temp-ban. While those issues may seem insignificant to some, the end result could be the loss of a forum contributor and fellow car enthusiast. Some of you may not care, but I think that we'll all be worse off if it happens.

 

I'll bet he feels like the rug was pulled underneath him, and his good name tarnished without the means to defend himself. Gus does put a lot of time into helping others, especially youngsters - When he is then being badmouthed to some degree, without him being here, he feels that these youngsters might get the perception that he is a clown who doesnt follow orders and then they might loose some respect for him. THAT he cares about. He doesn't care about a site, he cares about the people who he is in good standing with on this board. Honestly I can understand that. Especially when you put alot of effort into helping others.
