I just heard the new Ferrari sidepods may be present for FP2 but not FP1. They are really hauling on them aren't they.

As for the Mercedes boys, I have heard it would be unwise to rule out a Merc win this weekend. They supposedly have not shown their hand at all yet and have a seriously quick car.

There is also some conjecture out there that Mclaren and Red Bull are looking at a redesign on their exhaust system due to extreme rear tire wear. Their systems blow in a very general manner at the back tires and diff and they reportedly have not pushed the car very hard yet basically because they have been unable to. This is rumored to be the reason for Mclaren not having substantially longer runs during testing, they were getting their hands around tire wear and heat.

Encouraging stuff!! So are Ferrari doing away with the "Acer ducts" and going to a more Benz-like setup?

No idea what their layout will be. The end of testing they were blowing the beam wing so I expect it will be something along those lines. Going with a RB or Mcl setup would require more than just modified sidepods so I seriously doubt they will try that route

Anyone picking Lotus being in the top 6 is dreaming. Although the Lotus may be decent enough with low speed traction, it's aero leaves them with a definitive gap between the top 3. Just have a look at the somewhat portly back end specifically the lower venting just over the diffuser and exhaust.

That being said, if there were any track which would suit Lotus, it would be Melbourne and Monaco.

Based on the Lancia-Ferrari D50. Notice the big sidepods for the fuel?

Pirelli saying their tires are even more fall apart this season. That or the lack of rear downforce is just putting more stress on the rears out of low speed corners causing them to fall apart more quickly.

This past 'off season' passed rather quickly for me. I'm looking forward to practice as it gets the F1 blood circulating again, of crap I hope I don't forget to buy more tapes for recording. I cringed everytime I look into my tv console as I have the last two seasons piled up there with no labels lol!

Yes sir I'm still old school as I have yet to purchase a dvd recorder :D . I have previously mentioned that I have almost every season since the early '80s on VHS but I have kept them enclosed and in the house and the quality is still good. A dvd recorder/vhs combo would be great so I can transfer them. As long as I can record the race the media format for me is irrelevant.

You might want to get that VHS/DVD combo rather sooner than later: VHS tapes are deteriorating.

DVDs are not forever either (particularly if you add some sticker to them). But once you have DVDs it is easier to copy them onto a harddisk and make backups etc.

I went through a similar exercise, I have now all F1 seasons since 1950 (only as season review, not individual races like you).

I'm thinking this will resolve my issues, the rep said that I can transfer from vhs to dvd and record onto both formats with it?

Wow, we have some dinosaurs in here! Gotta get with the times!! And like mentioned already, VHS deteriorates no matter how well you "preserve" it.

Just because I still beta doesn't mean I don't got some of those newfangled IOS devices too.
I got bits and bytes all over the place.

Yes, this will do the trick.

Problem is, the recording will be in real time, so this could take a while...

Also some TV stations use Macrovision and the machine detects that and will stop from recording a DVD. For those (rare) cases you might need a filter.

We're still taping everything for daily use to VHS. It is the cheapest solution and the equipment is paid for. But for long time storage, harddisks with mirroring or striping are de rigeur. Personally I do a mirror to an external TB drive and store it off location.
