Saturday drive turned into coolant system repair….. Uggh! Was running down highway and ran into some traffic and started smelling coolant. Thought it was a car in front of me or near me. Made it to lunch no issue. Came out and saw coolant under car and running to curb. Coolant tank had coolant in it. Saw coolant near upper hose in middle of car. Saw coolant on under tray, but radiator and big hoses seemed good. Was going to make a quick stop and head home to let it cool off and then work on it…. It was still looking pretty good on gauges. Then of course, got a spike up in temp, in traffic, so made decision to head to buddies house and dig in. We saw coolant had sprayed towards firewall. Pulled tank off - about dry!! Found wrong size hose clamps on upper “bleed hoses.” And the tiny one on passenger side was damp. Decided pull off power steering retainer bracket and pull coolant tank out to see top of thermostat. And small hose to thermostat housing. That was damp. But I think a lot of evaporation? The hose clamps were cranked all the way tight. I think one of the clamps dug into it, causing the loss of coolant. But when I got all off, it was completely block off and no fluid could pass through it! Unfortunately, I had to Autozone the repair. Universal hose and clamps - properly sized. Really surprised at the findings. Hate to not use Maranello parts. Will correct at next major. Added a gallon of coolant! Yikes. I say it was a unknown issue that was not discovered at last service or major, but hose and clamps has me puzzled. Cool as a cucumber now. Fans kick on and off at appropriate temps. No issues in traffic or on the drive home. Basically like fixing a Honda on a Saturday afternoon. Sorry, no pics. This is why you always change those hoses at every major. I can't explain why the improper hose clamp was used to close off the hose altogether. That is inattention to details, I guess. Did you do the engine out?
No, just bought the car. So the last service lacking. No biggie. Just an unusual occurrence based on records and selling dealer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
