I ordered a 4.5lb density, 4" thick memry foam pad the other day for my lady's bithday. She's wanted one for quite a while, and so I did some shopping around. Found the pad for a great price ($133) on ebay. I'm just waiting for it to arrive.

Anyhow, if it is as great as I'm thinking it will be, I may go ahead and buy a second 4" pad, perhaps with a 5lb density, and slap the two together and dump my old mattress all together.

Any one here use one of these? Opinions?

    I use a pad (don't know the spec.) & a pillow.

It is helping me greatly to reduce a back pain from sleeping on my back. We are considering to buy a mattress, but not sure yet.

A pad doesn't last for long time though. I read, watch, work on my bed, and that adds up to 8-10 hours a day sometime. Our first pad lasted about 3 years. Our second pad was much cheaper I bought it at Sam's or Costco last year, and it's holding great so far.

There's a site which sells a mattress made of memory foam. You may want to check it out.

This should go in here I suppose. I've had a Tempur Pedic bed since ~1998. That's well before their infomercials were aired. It has treated me very well, but it isn't for everyone. If you have a severely messed up back, you will always have a messed up back and this might not be the best thing for you. Some movement in a bed and some give might be good for you. So a memory foam bed / tempur pedic bed just might make your back worse than it already is.

The downsides to it: during cold winter months (that's below 60 degrees here) the bed will not warm up as easily and will feel like sleeping on the floor at times. Sleeping on your side isn't always a fun thing to do, because your arm which might go under you will not have much give and will push into your side.

The upsides to it: stable back. less painful all around (at least for me, and that's coming from someone with a fractured SI joint so you know I'm messed up), and you can get up, jump around and whoever is sleeping with you will not even notice.

One last thing, I absolutely love the pillows. Those rock and are not something you can skim on.
