I'm looking to lease a new car because my E55 lease is up soon and I came across the new CLS Benz. I can't really make up my mind about this car just because it honestly has a unique design that I guess some people don't really like. I'm just wondering if anyone on here has had a chance to actually drive this car or has one or is looking into buying one? I can't find that much information like forums on the net except a few sites like clsforums.com but nothing really big so hopefully someone on here can shed some light on this car. Cheers!

Next week I am going to a private party at an MB dealer for the launch of the CLS. In pictures it's great.........I can't wait to see the first one !!

In gloss black it would be incredible !! Shame about their quality though.....however, seeing as it's really a parts car with a new outer body, I don't think you can apply the "never buy a first year model" maxim to this one.....which should be worth something.

I just looked at one on Saturday, I loved it! I am going to put a deposit down on one this week, it should be here in 90 days.

Yep, no doubt the new CLS looks nice. But you may want to reconsider since it's the first model year. Just look at the current E class history. Lots of electronic problems on the first production run such as whole electronics shutting down, brake-by-wire recall, and integrated NAVI cannot be retrofitted etc.

    I'd wait.

I understand, but nothing is "new" on this car, it shares all of the E class mechanicals and wiring, so I do not think it has the same issues as a "new" model.

The CLS is definitely a HOT-T car. Glad to see you're stepping up and getting one. Look forward to your impressions.

I held off on judgment until I saw it person.. I was more than impressed when I did. It's a very unique looking car, and I'd definitely take this over the normal E.

Sorry, the gangster look with the chopped windows doesn't float my boat. I guess that what makes the world go round, huh?

Personally, I think that MB and BMW are trying too hard. Instead of incremental improvement, such as the Ferrari 612 over the 456, they keep trying to go over the top.

Personally, I'd go for an Audi 8L for a luxoboat.

I drove one this week. I like it a lot but there are two problems with it as I see it.

    1. No discount off of MSRP and no cars in inventory for sale. ($73K)
    2. First year of a new car and I've had a few problems with my last 2 MB's.

What it has going for it are these two things.

    1. Sexy Italian like design with great looks inside and out.
    2. The car is fast and it handles fantastic.

I also looked at the Audi A8L and the Jaguar XJ8L Vanden Plas and the Lexus LS 430 this week. I think I am most impressed with the Jag. I've got to do something soon. I went back and drove the Jag a second time today. Maybe I'm starting to get old but it was just extremely comfortable and big and nice.

I have seen a couple of them in the showroom and they're beautiful. Probably one of the best designs lately.

-I have to reckon that my standard in cars is much lower than yours. I'll get my first proper car next week after 10 years with an opel corsa 50CV-

My dad just got one too... a Designo edition CLS500 (I think) down in Naples Florida. I haven't seen pictures yet, but that is one SMOKIN' HOT Benz!

Benz is really firing on all cylinders while Chris Bangle continues to screw up BMW.

Imo the interior materials look/feel cheap, the back seat has NO headroom and the high doors reminded me of riding in the back of one of those Police cars. Couldn't wait to get out.
MB quality is down the tubes why buy a headache?

I really don't understand the Chris Bangle hatred. I an neutral on BMW's styling, but then again, I've never owned one and won't in the near future. Same w/ Benz.

But how does someone love Mercedes styling but invoke Bangle's name in disgust?

The "styles" look very similar to me, each with their own touches.

I guess I don't have a refined eye. I rarely see a car whose styling disgusts me. Scion notwithstanding.

edit: And that MB is gorgeous.

Its because we just expected MORE from BMW.

BMWs should look better than this. Its disappointing when you have loved them since the 2002s and 3.0CSs.

They, seemingly have forsaken their enthusiast core in order to appeal to the soccer moms with this pathetic styling and auto transmissions.

There's not a BMW made that I would want, and thats a sad statement as they have always been one of my very fav companies.

Mr. G, I didn't know until this weekend, when another Fchatter and I were discussing 0846, that you were a director. As if we didn't already think of you as a renaissance man. :)

I just bought a Silver/Charcoal CLS55 about a week ago. Already has 800 miles on it and I love it. The car is based on the E-class, but in my opinion drives considerably better and the looks are awesome (IMO, of course). The back seat is quite limited however; no headroom at all.
