    Can't see how that's not illegal! From the 2014 regs. Only relevant clauses, my emphasis added;

    I can't find it now, but IIRC there's also something about "excess" fuel being returned to the tank - You can't stash it anywhere else....

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Since the engine is so compact, has the wheelbase of the cars changed? Looks like the weight can be more toward the center of the car, and maybe will balance better.

    Think anyone will go for a W-6 configuration to make it more compact?

    I like yer thinking! ;)

    Unfortunately, not allowed. :(

    The relevant section (edited for brevity) of the 2014 regs;

    Pretty tightly defined! ;)

    As for the wheelbase / weight distribution;

    So, no funny stuff there either!....

    Cheers,
    Ian

    I heard that same thing, that may have been what I was thinking of..... lots of stuff being kicked around. It would be nice if the rules weren't so rigid lately.

    I re-read the article in F1 Racing magazine, and they were talking about the average car burned 160kg of fuel last year, and they wanted to reduce the amount of fuel used to 100kg.

    :eek:

    If that's correct, they're looking for a ~40% decrease in consumption! I could be wrong, but that just doesn't add up to me.

    Are you sure they didn't say a maximum (flow rate) of 100kg/h versus 160kg/h today? That still seems awfully tight, but is a *little* more realistic IMO.

    Cheers,
    Ian

    No worries!..... Except it was keeping me awake at night! :)

    Glad we got there!

    Having said that, *if* they were drawing 160kg/h wide open last year that's still a pretty significant reduction. As we know, turbo's are a great "something for nothing" in terms of power and 500bar direct injection is much more efficient than today, but I am getting a little nervous that Fpiloto's comments about 'em not using all the allowed revs because of this is a little "concerning". Hopefully, if they run into it the FIA will increase it some - These suckers will need to *rev* to sound good IMO.

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Ian, what did Senna's old Renault engined Lotus rev to back then? It didn't sound great but it wasn't terrible either. A higher pitched angrier version of that could work

    I think I partially answered my own question. Looks like they made max power at 11k ish which was also about their peak rpm. From listening to them a bit more it sounds like they kept revs around 8-10k operating.

    And btw, why doesn't Stephen Johansen get more credit? He was wonderful.

    I forgot Honda's NSX Lemans entry years ago had a turbo V6, and it sounds amazing. If F1 engines of the future sound anything like this, then the fans will be a-ok.
