What a load of bs lol...

Mercedes will receive data on Pirelli's findings about its new tyres at the young driver test this week, despite being banned from taking part in it.

Although the Brackley-based outfit is not allowed to run at Silverstone this week as punishment for its illegal use of a 2013 car during a Pirelli test after the Spanish Grand Prix, it will still have access to some data from the three days.

Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery has told AUTOSPORT that his company will continue its policy of sharing all tyre test data with each team.

"The teams will have a very clear tyre test programme," said Hembery. "They have to run what we are telling them to run.

"Mercedes do have a lot of data from the tyre from last year in terms of the way it will affect aero and set-up.

"I think they would have benefited from being able to run.

"However, we give all the teams the same feedback [after the test]. We look at the same data, so they have all the same information."

As well as Pirelli's data from the Silverstone test, Mercedes reckons that its experience of back-to-back tests with the 2012 and 2013 rubber at last year's Brazilian Grand Prix will help it minimise any disadvantage.

Team boss Ross Brawn said: "We are looking at our experiences. We did some comparisons in Brazil between 2012 and 2013 tyres, so we are looking at all that data.

"We know the 2012 tyres from last year pretty well, and there are still 2012 wind tunnel tyres around.

"We are looking at it all to try to anticipate any effect [the new tyres] have.

"We don't expect the changes to be dramatic, but I think the construction changes are the ones that are going to be most significant.

"It doesn't help [missing the test] as we won't be trying the 2012 tyre on the [2013] car until we get to Hungary.

"It would have been nice to have an insight, but that is what we have to live with."

What punishment lol! The sad farce continues for 'the pinnacle' of sport soap opera. They had their test they DO NOT deserve this data. They asked for this penalty and still benefit from it. Yes the pinnacle it is. Sad and silly.

Lawn bowling has more credibility lol!

WTF cares? It's not going to help them one iota.

They're still a crap team, and I bet MS wakes up every day and thanks the gods that Lewis stepped up.

By the time they get anywhere, if they ever do, MS will be approaching 50. That team was never going to be any good for that guy (not that I feel sorry for him)

The ban of the young drivers tests was something like a symbolic punishment. Now it is data for free. Probably not very useful data, but other teams had to pay for it.

Plus, if they are not going to bring the new rubber till Hungary, WTF are they going to test now?

So at the moment there is only one team in F1 that isn't crap? Mercedes is second in the constructor's standings. I think they aren't that crappy anymore...

    btw.:
MS is riding his horses and says he's happy for Nico and Lewis:

Not such a big deal as they only get tire data. Unlike their private test where they were able to test their own car and its modifications.

They're second because of a couple of excellent races, one of which DEFINITELY had nothing to do with tyre testing, the other, who knows, but it's more the other teams tripping over themselves IMO. The last race was more typical, and to me showed they gained NOTHING from the tyre tests.

Good for MS.....most successful F1 career ever, so far, good for him to enjoy himself with his family and very diplomatic to be happy for Nico and Lewis. He might even mean it! :)

    True.
Expecting them to run the new rubber without any knowledge of its basic characteristics is just plain dangerous.

do you have proof of their modifications? surely if they made changes to the car, that would invalidate the tyre test. I thought that was all part of their combined argument.

My bad: I´d misunderstood the link, it was Ross Brawn, not Hembery, who said that they were not going to test those tyres till Hungaroging.

Your frustrations would have a leg to stand on if the Mercedes had of had tire data from their test with Pirelli. As is...I don't see what the fuss is about.

Why is Di Resta in this?

PS: on somewhat related news: Hill III just quit his single seater racing career
