Well I really don't like Mercedes as a company and as a team and was very worried about the disastrous effect on the sport their appeal would have....but what a relief: it has just been announced they are withdrawing it: so in this case bravo Mercedes for the good of the sport.

For three days they did not communicate at all...and many were very nervous but thank God for this.

Just in time too as the FIA Awards ceremony is this evening in Paris.

Apparently the (former) Emperor has no clothes. Reports say that neither Lewis nor Toto will attend tonight's FIA festivities.

Nothing. He's not going to the gala.

I think at this point I've got suspicions that Lewis will retire from F1, citing he lost trust in fia as the reason. Won't need to see how fast Russell is or isn't then either. Image Unavailable, Please Login

I agree, And I hope Mercedes pulls out of F1 completely, along with not supplying any engines to the other teams.
No reason to watch predetermined "entertainment" since it is NOT a sport

There's an old truth that crisis doesn't build character, it reveals it. I'm not big on the "happy loser" advice, but being able to suffer the indignity of what you see as unfair and unwarranted with composure elevates you in the eyes of both your fans and detractors. You don't have to be fake, you can express that the events at the end of the race should cause the sport to examine the rules, etc., and keep your reputation intact while also congratulating your rival for his victory (it's not like Lewis hadn't seen the brake lights of Max's car at the finish line several times this year)..

There's nothing worse in sports than a bad winner, except perhaps for a former winner being incapable of a setback without a display of pique. Without going into the mess of the last few laps, Mercedes is the last one to whine about the rules and how they are applied. They have been dominant for so long, perhaps they thought it was written on that third tablet that came down from Mt. Sinai. Russell's drive in Hamilton's car showed that whoever sat behind the wheel had an immediate advantage over the field. Lewis is a generational talent, and took advantage of a generational car to assemble his wins. Taking his car and going home does a disservice to him and others; IMHO, Mercedes should forfeit the WCC if they also elect to flaunt the rules for no other reason than they're having a temper tantrum.

That won’t really go inline with Toto’s comment saying he’s not a sore loser but whatever.

I think it would look hypocritical if they showed up given what they (or at least Toto) have expressed. II have no doubt MB will be doing some soul searching, but they can't just walk away from the investment they've put into the new cars. It wasn't just MB that were upset/confused during the whole season, so the issues are beyond just this last race. And like it (him) or not, if a 7x World Champion walks away from F1 as a result of this, it will make the FIA and F1 look really bad. Let's see what the FIA do - it's now in their lap to re-establish any credibility they have in F1

It was too good to be true, Toto shows his true face and by not attending he and Lewis are acting very ungentlemanly...how ironic that it should happen one day after he was made Sir Lewis by Prince Charles...
I will bet that it was massive pressure from the FIA that got Benz to back off, hence the "Official FIA investigation" announced at same time.

Where is the thumbs down emoji?

I hope he doesn’t change his mind and attend because that would be transparently phony. His first impulse reveals his true instincts.
