Just in case you weren't feeling too old today, this will certainly change things : The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1986. They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up. Their lifetime has always included AIDS. Bottle caps have always been screw off and plastic. The CD was introduced the year they were born. They have always had an answering machine. They have always had cable. They cannot fathom not having a remote control. Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show. Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave. They never took a swim and thought about Jaws. They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are! They don't know who Mork was or where he was from. They never heard: "Where's the Beef?", "I'd walk a mile for a Camel", or "de plane Boss, de plane". They do not care who shot J. R. and have no idea who J. R. even is. McDonald's never came in Styrofoam containers. They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter. Do you feel old yet?
oh man, i remember all that, clara peller (where's the beef lady) was a schoolmate's great aunt. Also the sesquicentennial of the statue of liberty, where I rode on a schooner called the 'yankee' out of greenport, the same night my grandfather lost his battle with cancer while we watched our favorite chaplin film. when the shuttle blew up i was in woodshop, and my friend broke a bandsaw, nearly losing a finger, also that was the last year mcd's sold happy meals in those molded plastic containers. i had a shirt that said 'i shot jr' oh man, i have clear visions of allof these, i was 13 that year, and my gf sits here having me explain it all to her, she was just 3 at the time
I think you're right, as I had some CD in college days. It was not really popular, but Tower Record was carrying some. I also remember getting them in Japan, too, during my break. Things like these don't really make me feel old. What does to me is when I cannot make it running HR when I hit it over outfielders in softball, when I cannot stay up for 48 hours straight anymore as I start falling asleep typing on computers, & when I pee, the force is clearly less than what used to be. (I recently found out why this happens from an urology doctor, does anyone can guess why?)
Born May 11, 1986. Starting college at University of Pennsylvania in the fall. Agree with everything there, except I do know how to use a typewritter. Or rather, I used to. I'm not sure if it has stuck with me.
Thats why my generation has I love the 80s on VH1, tells you everything you need to know. Wasnt it the girl with the blue dress who shot J.R.? Just think when the kids born in 1988 go to college in two years, they will have never lived with the Soviet Union, that should make you feel real old
My Dad brought me a cassette (only) Walkman from a trip b4 they were in the US..I was wearing it during a near fatal bike wreck, and the wreckers tried to pocket it....I went after it the next day and got it back! I ran across it the other day..... Thanks for eveything, Dad...Rest In Peace These youngsters look good in a bathing suit. Heck it took us an hour to GET to that point back in '76!! LOL
Tomorrow is #39 for me. I am NOT getting older (in denial), I'm getting better like good wine. I remember when MTV actually played music videos!! HE, HE, HE Mark

I'm teaching again this year at the University where I am finishing grad school. The class is all freshmen. I look out and think that these kids were in pre-school the year I graduated high school. That makes me feel old. There is great song right now called "1985" that comments on this exact topic.
I did. Is there a problem? 4 months or not, I did not feel the "search" button had an expiration date.
No, not really a problem, just a tad annoying - ESPECIALLY since it's been almost 4 months since the original was posted - which only contained half of the information in my thread, to begin with... How many new people have registered in the last 4 months...?
