This thread is all about messing with Diablos. Yes, some folk say dont mess with them but I'm talking about messing in a good way.

Are there any little mods you guys have made to your cars to make them nicer in your opinion? More convenient mods?

After a long wait, last week I put down my deposit on a Chiaro Blue 96 VT. It get it in a couple of weeks time and plan to remove the high spoiler on it. Another thought is to put Murcielago Roadster wheels on it just to keep in line with the timeless shape.

Anyway, I always make my cars better than they were and I have a couple of questions for you guys to see if these things are possible. All original parts will be kept.

    1. Is there anything i can do to the rear grille? It currently houses the rear fog light and reverse light unlike another 96 VT i saw which had a large black mesh grille and lights on the rear bumper. I would like to see if its possible to remove the current grille and replace it with the black one, possibly keeping the lights behind the new grille?

    2. Is it possible to do something with the rather dull gear shift gate? It is plain silver and has no numbers. If you look at this fellow F-chatters SV, the gear shift gate is far nicer. Any thoughts?

    3. is it possible to do anything with the rear lights?

Ideas are more than welcome, my intentions are to get rid of the things that date it slightly which i think is very easily done.

I agree, there are minor things you can do to update the car...and if it makes you happy DO IT!!

For me, I as well do not like the early rear taillight set-up. The tail light bezzels are of reflective material as the tail light lenses did not have this as required.

On mine I removed the bezzels, painted them body color as well as changed the Orange lense to red...AND wired both light for BRAKE LIGHT STOP to give more light to an approaching driver on stop..I like the up dated look

Yes, you can also add Murcie wheels, 6.0 wheels to your car...will bolt right on no issue...I think the 6.0 looks the best, or the OEM 2002-2003 wheels, the newer murcie wheels are to sharp for all the round edges on a Diablo IMO..............

I also have 6.0 and OEM Murcie wheels in stock for sale, with or without tires.

    congrats: you will love it!

so the trip to S.Agata really had left a sign on you :)

    about mods:

1- i suggest to remove cats if not already done, they sometimes have "ugly"failures on diablos
2- i agree on the wing...imo the VT looks best without spoilers
3- nice idea about the gear grill, it can be done easily
4- there are some nice CF surround for the tail lights ...i do not know if they will look good on a chiaro blue car though
5- think about removing the rear bumper and put a 2 tips (6.0 like) sport muffler...i know it is "hardcore" mod, but i find diablos look nice without the bumper (SVR look)

i forgot the most important.....6- remove VT (gain performance and longer life to your clutch ;- ) )

Its difficult to think of what might look better on the rear light setup. I think just updating the rear grille will do it. I've never been a fan of black touches on cars so only option for rear lights would be to leave or paint Chiaro Blue, similar finish to Gus's 6.0. I reckon I'll just leave it though, may be going too far.

I do like the idea of the 4 brake lights, would look good i imagine. I love the 6.0 wheels but the couple of early cars I have seen pictures of with them didnt look right for some reason, maybe copies or wrong profile tyres? I should really search for more pictures as I do love them.

Thanks buddy, Im so itching to get it.

I suppose removing the rear boot panel to unfasten the spolier will give access to the rear grille so I can check it out. I wouldnt know where to go for a later rear grille but I'll ask the seller as he works on many.

As for the rear bumper, they do look monstrous without but theres no way this baby is turning into a racing beast, its too nice for that! :)

do you realize that the wheels you speak of are not easy to find? They do look gorgeous, and would recomend 18 inchers.

Part of my deal was to get the Diablo Roadster alloys with it, instead of the original wheels which it currently has on it. The seller had a set so it modernises it nicely for the meantime, who knows I may keep them. My girlfriend never liked the originals so she's glad.

    Cheers Dan,

What do you mean by Redline?

The other car you refer to was I think Ingo's, red early D with the wheels, very nice indeed. There is a swiss one too i gather.

Here is a little sneak preview, sellers picture and then mine, check out that colour!!

Does anyone know if the gear shift gates can be transferred from say an SV to a 96 VT?

Anyone know how much the gates changed and in what way over the years?

All i can see if that they look a lot nicer on later cars (SV's etc) and I'm interested in updating mine.

    nice color!
i agree on losing this wing...it really is the ugliest of the diablo's wings and the car will look lower and wider without

the car will also look better with different wheels, i agree

if you need murcie wheels or later diablos drop me a PM: i have something layng around

Cheers Webby, start of a dream come true really. I've got more pictures but I'm holding off posting any til its in my hands.

Will do, Ive had a UK quote for Murcie Roadster wheels but thinking its rather expensive to buy from abroad at the moment :(

I forgot yours was the money green car, what a great photo, shows off the lines very well.

The rear grille, does that house the reverse and fog light on yours? Its difficult to see.

Also, what is the shift gate like in yours?

Very nice, I notice some Diablos have the full wing mirror painted and others are half black and half body colour. Wondering if thats an aftermarket thing, painting the full mirror?
