UK cars come with the factory fit Navtrak tracker.

The perceived wisdom is that it’s not so good as it has no app, no live tracking and no remote immobilisation, so Meta Trak is a commonly fitted after market system.

The installer is telling me, just so I’m aware, that “it can occasionally cause an error message on the dash” but just turn the car off and on again and it will clear.

Dealer is telling me if a tracking system produces any error message or CEL, they will void the warranty in full. The specific dealer is my geographically local dealer and has form with that sort of thing - anything whatsoever not stock and they will argue to void the warranty and service plan. They say they could not recommend any after market tracker as none are F approved.

I know several people with Meta Trak on various F models (but not Roma) and they have had no problems.

I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place not knowing who to believe.

Has anyone had any error message / CEL problems triggered by Meta Trak on a Roma? Thanks.

I have no specific experience but surely a system that works albeit allegedly (but not certainly: 'perceived') slightly less conveniently is a better bet then one that may cause problems especially on something electronically fussy such as a modern Ferrari

You can fit Vodafone's own version of the Navtrak. It comes with all the functionalty you are looking for via an app. The annual subscription cost is around a third of the Ferrari version. I had an issue where the standard fit system failed on my previous 812 GTS. I had the Vodafone version fitted as a replacement via the main dealer who organised it all as I said I was not willing to have the basic system that had failed put back in. As it is virtually the same system as the OEM there was no issue with an errors on the 812. I'd imagine the same would be true for the Roma.

So the supplying dealer said meta track is ok and they have no problems, fit meta track to all their demonstrators and have no issues with warranty or its renewal.

My geographically local dealer said any car that throws an error or has one stored with any aftermarket immobiliser, they will void the warranty as regards all electrical items. They will not renew the warranty on any vehicle which has any after market tracker / immobiliser fitted. Shocking. I was extremely clear in my questions and received extremely clear answers with no room for misunderstanding.

So different franchised dealers differ significantly in their approach to the issue.

Given certain insurers won’t even quote for vehicles located in certain postcodes, unless certain additional immobilisers are fitted, my geographically close dealer must not sell any vehicles to that part of the country.

where abouts in the UK are you? I am in the Midlands but getting a car from Scotland. That dealer was fine with after market items like a Ghost etc.

I’m located in the north west.

The supplying dealer is in London and unsurprisingly has no issues with meta track, given it’s all but mandatory in order to obtain insurance in London following all the thefts last year.

A different franchised dealer had a more sensible outlook on the reality of insurers’ requirements and how to match that up with warranty terms. My situation has thankfully been resolved. How my geographically local dealer ever manages to sell any car with their approach to insurer mandated tracker / immobilisers, I don’t know.
