The coolant pipe on the left side of the car, part 87 in the top right part of the attached diagram, bends around the frame and run adjacent to the gas tank, and appears to have rubbed against the frame and worn right through. It is hard to tell for sure as the foam protection sleeve is still on the pipe where it wore through.

Question to the expert mechanics, can this pipe be removed without taking the gas tank out? It looks very tight, and has bends on each end, so not sure it can just be wiggled out of there.

I would appreciate anyone who did this pipe replacement before to weigh in (posted in the technical section as well).

Picture from below shows where the pipe goes behind the frame rail...the silver wrinkle paint in the background is the gas tank... Image Unavailable, Please Login

This is the where the pipe connects a bit higher up from the last picture.

I cannot offer assistance here as I dropped my entire subframe before removing all the cooling pipes (just disconnected them) but if you want a replacement, I just checked the parts diagrams for both a 83 3.0QV and a 88 3.2QV and both seem to be ferrari part #122022

If you want this pipe (and all the rest of mine), LMK. I have all of them available as I gutted my car for the EV conversion.

Thank you for the offer, I just ordered the pipe from Ferrparts, for about $60 so should be on the way.

I could use the aluminum pipe that connects to the heater hoses accross the top front part of the engine bay, part number 60748600. I am in Toronto, Canada, if you are inclined to ship up here. Maybe I can acquire the whole whole lot of pipes and have some spares on hand? PM me if you want to pursue this.

(I love your EV conversion project)

I have "all the pipes" as I don't plan on using any of this for my EV conversion. LMK which one you are looking for and we can double check the part #s to see if they match your needs. I'm happy to ship wherever provided the overall price works for the buyer and the net sales price is decent enough for me.

    Here are all my pipes.

BTW, I haven't posted much on my EV conversion recently b/c work is a little hectic but I'm just now fabricating the mounts to hold the EV to the subframe.

My bet is that (with some persistence) you can definitely get it out with the gas tanks in there - There are short 1 5/8" rubber hoses on both ends...once you loosen the four clamps on these hoses and the adel clamp holding the damaged pipe to the body (see below), you should be able to coax it out with some wiggling (and swearing) - Good luck!

One other thing - I believe there is a heat shield that will also need to be removed for access

Well that was quite the task to get this pipe off. I did loosen the heat sheilds, but not remove them, as I don't think they would be able to be lifted up or down and actually get them out of the car. People with engine out service, check this (covered with insulation) pipe for contact with the frame!

I removed both the two hard pipes that connect to the long hoses that dissappear to the front of the car to be able to remove the hose from the worn through pipe end. Took off the ECU and its mounting frame to create some clearance to pull the pipe out. Getting it out was really tough, had to tear off the pipe insulation. I am worried about how I will get a new one in, is that pipe insulation really necessary? I may not have an option and would have to install it bare. Not sure if it too prevent radiator heat going against the fuel tank, or to prevent engine and header heat from heating the coolant.

Unfortunately, I stressed the big red wire connector when dealing with the pipe, and broke the main electrical connector end fitting, this is the connector that plugs into the red block female end bracketed to the car. Any idea where I can get a replacement for that?

Now I wait for parts to arrive....

Anyone have thoughts on whether that pipe needs the pipe insulation on it? Most of the solid alloy coolant pipes have a neoprene like insulation on them.

NOS pipe was very reasonable at just over $50, in stock through Ferrparts. If it was na, I would have had it welded up, or JB welded it.

Ferrparts actually also had the NOS pipe insulation.

Thank you Ferrparts! Shipped to Canada quite promptly.

I was able to refit the pipe, with insulation, back in with way more ease than when I took it out. It was magic that it just juggled and plopped back in place.

I think the original hose that connects it to the upper metal pipe that goes under the plennum might have been a tad short, and pulled the pipe against the frame. I am going to use a longer hose section and see if I can let the pipe sit more naturally and reduce a chance of wear throug again.

Have not reconnected everything yet, it is a fussy project.
