Does anyone know when Ferrari switched to metallic core converters?

I removed my left cat due to a rattling heat shield and the core is in great shape and METALLIC. No welds to suggest a re-core. Its a 97. I have all service receipts from both prior owners back to new and see no documentation of a cat replacement.

    Anyone know when they switched?

    On which model?

Every F40 had metallic core. I had heard it was the first production application.

On 355 it was after 97.

Must have had a warranty replacement.

My '98 came with ceramic core cats, so maybe this is sort of like the valve guide inconsistency. Depended on what Luigi reached for the day yours was assembled.

I picked up some brand new OEM cats for the 355 from the Ferrari dealer in 2005 and they were ceramic, not metallic .......and subsequently failed as ceramics do.
So who knows whats going on.

My recollection is metallic started somewhere in 1999 production. Ferrari kept selling and offering warranty replacement with left over, new old stock, ceramic core catalysts for a long time.....probably until 2010 or so. I know when FNA offered the "special" (2010 or 2011?), where the dealer would install two catalysts for $3500 or so, those were metallic versions. A guy I met took the local dealer up on the offer, but only had one installed, as he only had one that failed. I bought the other from him. ;)

Yeah, and FNA should be ashamed to perform warranty replacement with more crap. I had receipts from 2003 showing the previous owner got new catalysts and exhaust manifolds as a "courtesy" warranty replacement...guess what happened a few years later under my ownership? :(

In the case of the catalysts, they already had a solution, but couldn't see to it to toss out the known problematic ceramic catalysts and go with the metallic ones? Instead, they continued to sell and give away the ceramic ones until they were finally gone.

Part Number 129 L07 is clearly marked on my left metallic cat. Is this different than the ceramic left sided part number?

Anyone have part numbers for right ceramic and metallic cats? (Cant read it on the right cat still on car)
