    I'm lucky enough to be the custodian of Mexico chassis number 112-462. A late December 1968 4.2 version.

    My car has a small body / build reference number plate on the inner wing with the number '224' stamped on it, with this matching the number stamps on all the chrome trim, and the main body panels etc. My car has had a frontal bump in the past and one of the wheel arch panels has number '422' so has come off another Mexico, with all the other being 224.

    Does anybody know what this number actually relates to? Is it the build number, or something else as it doesn't relate to the chassis number.

    This reference relates to the build number. I think it's internal to Vignale not Maserati. It was helping the workers for the car construction. The right bumper on the right car etc...

    Few examples found in my library.

    AM112*622 -> 288
    AM112*624 -> 289

    Sometimes, you can find a silver plate "Carrozzeria" with 4 digits.

    Oh that makes perfect sense. You can add mine to the list of known build numbers

    AM112*462 -> 224

    Cheers,

    Now back to the wheel polishing...... One down, three to go
