Hi all, Happy New Year. Just prior to Christmas a driver pulled up to me at the traffic lights to let me know that my brake lights weren’t working (nice of him). Both lights are out, regular lights work fine front and back/ indicators etc all good. Bulbs look fine, as do the fuses with a quick check. My mechanic is closed for a few weeks for the summer holidays here in Australia, anyone got any troubleshooting tips to get me up and running for some summer driving? Thanks Remi
Hi Remi, I had problems with my Ghibli brake lights, it turned out to be an issue with the brake pressure switch which once replaced solved my problem, is there a similar system on the Mexico? Julian https://maseratinet.com/maserati/ghibli/3061-brake-light-switch-gt
Thanks Julian- maybe I should have a look at the contacts of same to see if they could you a clean up?
Remi: It should be a very common old Volkswagen brake light switch. You can easily check the thread pitch.
No harm in trying but I think the inner workings stop working. Mine were on all the time then stopped working altogether
I saw that someone else had the same issue on the Indy thread, here's the relevant posts Image Unavailable, Please Login
Most likely the brake light switch has gone bad. Locate the switch and bridge the two contacts. If the brake lights come on the switch is bad. This is a common switch used on many period British cars. Ivan
The after market brake light switches are not too reliable, On one of my cars I fitted a micro switch to the brake pedal and extended the wires to this. It works reliably and the lights come on instantly when the brake pedal is touched rather than requiring a certain amount of pressure.
