One of the 5 (?) McBurnie Daytona replicas used on the TV show is now on display at the Volo museum. Here some shots of the car. It has some unusual details (e.g. the emblem on the knock offs and the underbody front guard) I didn't expect. Also I didn't know they actually changed the gauges.

I really hated the cheesy display at the Volo. At least they were playing non stop clips of Miami Vice car chases on the TV.

Nice pics. Is it sad that I can tell from the two screen shots on the TV that they were showng the episode where Crockett was chasing the white Countach?? :(

They could have done without the plastic flamingoes and baggies on the seats.

Those clear plastic seat covers bring back memories of visits to my grandmothers house!

Somewhere between the flamingos, the Don Johnson lettering on the door and the plastic seat covers the exhibition got a bit lost. They surely could have done a much nicer job. Other exhibits at the museum are a lot nicer, e.g. Arnold and the hearse from Terminator or the Ghostbusters to name a few. The display area seems to be temporary as it used to host the Blues Brothers and their cop car a year ago. So maybe at some later point they figure out a nicer way to display this car.

Hmm, kinda left sided compliment, isn't it? The clothes are from my "regular collection". I actually wear that. The shoes and the gun are from the "costume shop". Actually took me a while to find white leather lofers. But now I'm all set for my trip to Miami to worship the holy grounds of the original sets. :)

Thanks Billiam for that repost. I missed that. :)

Mike, you're spot on about the white Countach chase. We just stood there watching that over and over again. Fantastic footage. Was the Lambo real? It looked to me, but I'm no expert: I once called a real one a kitcar. Oops.

LOL! Yep, that was a real Countach they used for those scenes.

Did I see an automatic trans? I seem to remember someone telling me that Don Johnson didn't know how to drive a stick shift. You're right Andreas, I thought that McBurnie did a better job of replicating the instrument binnacle. That one seems a bit lame. And that steering wheel....oooh.

The car at the Volo is definitely an automatic. However I heard that there were several cars used in the show, so maybe another one had stick. A friend of mine from the UK bought another "original from the show" and found actually some handwritten notes from Don Johnson in the trunk. Neat.

    Andreas,
those wheel emblems are identifying the wheels as Zenith wire wheels. They are less $ than Dayton or Borrani, but do use a splined adapter. I was never crazy about them because the spinners were just covers over a special nut that holds the wheel on. Kim's car had them and they were always coming loose. After watching her right front wheel shoot ahead of us on a drive one day she got rid of them and switched to Daytons.
Here's a pic of a Zenith wheel to see it's the same emblem

Sounds a lot like the wheels my car originally had. I hated them and was glad to replace them with the five spokes I have now. Thanks for the edification!

No, it's a great car chase - one of the best from MV IMO... so no wonder it floats about in your head somewhere :)

Actually take a good look - there were 2 different Countachs used for that chase. I'm not sure if they're both originals/replicas... one is a 5000QV and the other a 5000S (they did use the same license plates though :)).

There were only two original MC Burnie cars on the set. One an auto, the other more powerful one has a stick and a supercharger setup. Roberts from Tennese took over maintaining the cars while Miami Vice was being filmed. They were also responsible for the creation of the Testarosso clone off of a Pantera. If you want pictures and history call me. I was at their facility where I bought my body from while all three were in the shop being maintained between shoots.

Both of the Countachs used were genuine.... one had the US bumpers (5000s) but the other
was a rare Downdraft/Euro version. Best chase scene ever imo.

OK now I have to find them, some are in my scrap book but all are hard copy so I'll have to scan them. So give me some time and I'll let Andreas post them when I get them converted.
