Was looking for something to watch on Directv tonight (wife and oldest daughter watching a chick flick) and found Miami Vice on Sleuth. The episode had Billy Zane as an arms dealer blowing up Sonny's black Daytona spider with a stinger and had a black single mirror Testarossa as Zane's car. I was thinking that the Testarossa would take the Daytona's place since Zane was killed, but I remember the Testarossa being white. Anyone remember where the white one came from? Different car or repaint?

2 black TRs were given to the tv series from FNA. they repainted them white for the night shots as white cars film better in day and night.

I found out some interesting stuff about the cars, but I couldn't answer the question of whether Billy Zane's black TR is supposed to be Sonny's new car. But the white T-R is in the next episode after the one where the Faketona gets blown up. (Maybe this question could be answered if you watch Sleuth tomorrow and see the next episode, if it's in sequence).

Little known fact is that the "T-R" used in stunts was actually a re-bodied Pantera with race harness, roll bar and even nitrous! A web site claimed that the stunt Pantera/T-R had be destroyed after the show ended per agreement with Ferrari.

But Ferrari did spupply the show with real T-R's – black ones, but the producer painted them white for better color contrast on TV. The use of the car in the show gave Ferrari so much publicity (and presumed sales) that Enzo hisself gave Don Johnson a 1989 silver T-R. (Tubbs must have been pissed.)

And as a nice shot in the head and proof that the world is going to hell, Don Johnson's silver T-R sold at a 2003 auction for $88,560 and the 1970 Plymouth Cuda Convertible from “Nash Bridges” sold at the same auction for $148,500. (And to think I sold my 1970 Challenger Convertible in 1998 for $14K!)

The best nuggget I discovered was that the show's white Testarossa is (was) currently on display at the Swap Shop Flea Market in Sunrise, Florida and when I looked at their web site, there is a photo of an Enzo on the home page!! ("But Mr. Tax Man, these are promotional expenses!!")

The photo of Don Johnson is from the scene where Billy Zane blows up his Daytona – classic. I have to admit that I remember that scene like it was yesterday!

(I have too much damn time on my hands!)

the episode where Sonny gets his 'new' white TR ran a couple of weeks ago on Sleuth. There was no mention of where it came from or previous owners, etc. Sonny, Tubbs, and the 'Lt.' are hanging out inside at the Po-leese station, and the Lt. just says sumpin' like "it's out back"(delivered in his energetic, highly personable style :) ). Sonny and Ricardo waltz out back and eyeball the new wheels, and that's about it.

Have seen all the episodes over the years, don't remember anything ever being said about where the car came from...but, I mighta missed something, too.

I remember all of those high-speed car chases through Miami ... I was thinking that they must have mapped them only over the city's most even-paved streets, because the first time that TR hit a pothole at that velocity, that infamous low front fiberglass spoiler would have been toast.

My own favorite TR scene: In the episode "The Rising Sun of Death", C&T are involved in a street gunfight in which they're hiding behind the TR. After the bad guys depart, Sonny runs around the car: "I can't believe it - Not a scratch!" [Then, I presume, he checked to make sure that Tubbs & himself were uninjured.]

And, as I mentioned in a thread about 3 weeks ago dealing with this very issue, did you catch the typo in the above Crockett quote ??

Tsk, tsk, don't know your TR's, do you? :)

Crockett says: "New paint and new rubber." I thought I read somewhere that it was the confiscated black car of Billy Zane that had been repainted. Which would make sense with that comment.

The new movie coming out this month starrs Colin Farrel and Jamie Foxx.

The feature Ferrari is an F430. Personally, I think it should have been a 575 SA or 599.
