I've just pulled out the rear "seat" of my GT4 to try and find the mounting points for the inertia reels on the seat belts to find a huge mouse nest made from oak leaves and the foam that used to cover the rear bulkhead. :(
Fortunately, it appears to be an old nest and no one was at home. The damages also seems to be confined to the bulkhead foam, which is assume is easily replaceable.
I still haven't found the mounting points for the inertia reels though, so I assume my car was originally fitted with static belts.
Is it possible to retro-fit inertia reel seat belts to a car that didn't originally have them?

Paul, which seat belts points are your looking for? Front or rear? rear belts should be static ones and front inertia. rear are mounted on each side of the inner rear seats and also on the outer. The fronts again inner along central tunnel(push button clips) and on the outer floor nr door and then also bottom of rear qtr light window top of B post and also below the qtr light lower B post behind the trim panel that covers the rear window area. You will need to take these out. there is also a facility on the flat panel at both side of the rear window which had a mounting point for race harnesses to be used from as well, this need the panel to be cut and a hole making. sorry don't have any photo's handy to post up for you. PM me your details can help as your fairly local to me.

    Hi Gav,

Thank you for your response to my post.

It is the mounting point for the inertia reel for the front seats, which I believe should be inside the side pockets of the rear seats.

A previous owner has removed the original seat belts and fitted red inertia belts, but instead of mounting the reel in the rear seat side pockets, they simple bolted them directly to the upper point at the base of the B pillar, which is both unsightly and ungainly as the belt keeps twisting when it retracts.

I don't quite understand your statement "...and then also bottom of rear qtr light window top of B post and also below the qtr light lower B post behind the trim panel that covers the rear window area." Can you elaborate please?

Paul, what I mentioned is as you have said in the rear side pockets. This is where the inertia part of the seat belt should be fitted and at the top as where your current ones are fitted this should be a guide slot where the belt runs through as per a normal seat belt at shoulder height. Sorry my wording was/is confusing.what year is the car? Gav

    Hi,
Ahh, that makes more sense. :)
My car is a 1974 series I model.
Can any advise on how the side pockets come out?

I worked out how to get the side pockets out and while it was useful to have a look behind the panels, I'm still no wiser on how or where the inertia reels fasten to.

I can only assume that my early model doesn't have the necessary mounting points. What should they look like?
